Hyundai has long sat among the biggest carmakers in India's passenger-vehicle market, but the past few months have brought a tougher fight as homegrown brands turn up the pressure. On current standings, Hyundai is the country's fourth-largest car company, trailing Maruti, Tata and Mahindra. Even so, its latest numbers show the grip is far from loosening.

## Overall sales climb 9 percent year-on-year
Last month Hyundai delivered 47,837 units to customers. Set against the 43,861 units it sold in May 2025, that works out to a 9 percent year-on-year increase — proof that despite stiffer competition, the company moved more cars than it did a year earlier.

Looked at model by model, the Creta remained the backbone as always, the Venue posted a startling jump, and both the Exter and the i20 climbed higher. On the other side, demand for cars like the Aura and the Grand i10 cooled off. Here is how each model fared.

## No. 1 — Hyundai Creta: feature-loaded and frugal too
The top spot once again belonged to the Hyundai Creta. It sold 15,235 units last month, a modest 3 percent year-on-year gain over the 14,860 units of May 2025. Its ex-showroom price runs from ₹10.79 lakh up to ₹20.20 lakh.

It is exactly this mix that keeps pulling in middle-class buyers — an attractive design, a premium cabin, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats and a dual 10.25-inch display. Engine choices include 1.5L petrol, turbo-petrol and diesel options, capable of delivering between 17 and 22 kmpl. On safety, it offers 6 airbags, ESC and a 360° camera.

## No. 2 — Hyundai Venue: a 56 percent leap
The sub-compact SUV that took second place produced the most eye-catching result of all. Last month 11,714 customers chose the Venue, against just 7,520 units in May 2025 — a full 56 percent year-on-year surge, the sharpest of any model in the lineup.

## No. 3 — Hyundai Exter: steady micro-SUV demand
The micro-SUV Hyundai Exter landed in third, with 6,595 units sold last month. That is a 12 percent year-on-year rise over the 5,899 units of May 2025, showing the model is tightening its hold in the small-SUV segment.

## No. 4 — Hyundai Aura: a slight dip
The Aura, in fourth, saw sales soften a touch. It found 5,077 buyers last month versus 5,225 units in May 2025 — a marginal 3 percent year-on-year decline.

## No. 5 — Hyundai i20: back in the top five, up 16 percent
Riding rising demand, the Hyundai i20 secured its place in the company's top-five list. It sold 4,749 units last month, pointing to a 16 percent year-on-year increase over the 4,090 units of May 2025.

## The rest of the range: a few solid runs, one blank score
Beyond the top five, the Hyundai Grand i10 managed 2,920 units, the Hyundai Alcazar 814 units, the Hyundai Verna 723 units and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 just 10 units. The most striking detail of all: the Hyundai Tucson did not find a single buyer last month.
