For farmers in Sikar, this is the ideal moment to take up early-season vegetables for the kharif crop. Those who want to earn more from vegetable farming can grow their crop ahead of the regular season and sell it in the market or mandi to fetch a better price. That makes right now the most suitable time to set up a nursery. According to agriculture expert Dinesh Jakhar, in the month of June farmers can prepare seedlings of vegetables such as cauliflower, tomato, green chilli and brinjal and transplant them on time. Doing so improves the chances of both a good harvest and a better market price.

He explained that a nursery should always be set up at a spot where water drains well and where there is plenty of light. During the rainy season, an insect-proof nylon net should be used to protect the plants from excess moisture and pest attacks. This reduces the entry of white fly, thrips and other disease-spreading insects, keeping the seedlings healthy.

## Use a Shade Net to Guard Against the Sun
The agriculture expert said that to protect the nursery from harsh sunlight and high temperatures, farmers should use a 40 percent shade net. This net should be fixed at a height of about 6.5 feet so that the plants keep receiving enough air and light. According to him, this improves germination and ensures the plants grow evenly.

## Seed Treatment Before Sowing Is Essential
Apart from this, treating the seeds before sowing the vegetables is also very important. Treating the seeds with Thiram at the rate of 2 to 2.5 grams per kilogram of seed provides protection against seed-borne diseases. Farmers can also use a biological fungicide such as Trichoderma, which lowers the risk of damping-off and other fungal diseases. Mixing well-rotted cow dung manure and vermicompost into the nursery soil supplies the plants with the nutrients they need. After sowing, give light irrigation and keep the soil moist. Remember that giving too much water raises the likelihood of disease in the plants.

## Earn More Profit With Scientific Techniques
Agriculture expert Dinesh Jakhar said that once the seedlings are ready, they should be acclimatised to the outdoor environment before transplanting by gradually removing the shade net over a few days. This builds tolerance in the plants and keeps their survival rate high after they are transplanted in the field. In this way, if farmers adopt scientific techniques for this cultivation, they can get a higher yield from their vegetables and earn far greater profit.
