12 June turned into one of the most crowded release days of the year for Hindi cinema. Nine films from wildly different genres landed in theatres on the very same date, and that traffic jam left its mark on every title's opening collection. Among them was director Chinmay D. Mandlekar's historical drama 'Governor: The Silent Saviour', which failed to draw the kind of footfall the makers had hoped for.

## The Era the Film Revisits
Headlined by Manoj Bajpayee, the film is built around India's 1991 'Balance of Payments' crisis. It was a moment when the country stood on the edge of one of the gravest economic emergencies in its history, and the film recreates that turbulent stretch on screen. Despite this weighty political-economic backdrop, its first-day earnings stayed muted.

## How the Opening-Day Numbers Stacked Up
By the time of reporting, 'Governor' had pulled in a net collection of Rs 90 lakh on its opening day in India. The film played across 1427 shows nationwide, yet could not even cross the Rs 1 crore mark. Its real test now lies over the weekend, when it gets a chance to build momentum.

The clear leader of the day was 'Main Wapas Aaunga', which earned Rs 1.15 crore. Powered by a cast that includes Diljit Dosanjh, Naseeruddin Shah, Sharvari and Vedang Raina, it grabbed the top spot on the back of 2302 shows. In second place was Kangana Ranaut's 'Bharat Bhagya Vidhata', which netted a total of Rs 76 lakh from 2181 shows.

Among the major Hindi releases, 'Governor' settled into third position. Notably, it was allotted just 1,020 shows — a markedly lower screen count — and still managed to earn Rs 90 lakh.

## A Day Packed With Releases
'Governor' did not arrive alone; it hit cinemas alongside eight other films. The line-up included 'Main Wapas Aaunga', 'Bharat Bhagya Vidhata', 'Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past', 'The Narmada Story', 'Heer Sara', 'Scary Movie', 'Disclosure Day' and 'Backrooms'. With so many titles colliding at once and audience opinion split across them, the fight for opening-day numbers was intense.

## The Cast of 'Governor'
Manoj Bajpayee leads the film. Madhu Shah plays Vandita Ramanan, the wife of A. Ramanan, while Naushad Mohammed Kunju steps into the role of Deputy Governor C. Rangarajan. Ada Sharma appears as journalist Aditi Verma. The supporting line-up also features Paritosh Sand, Jayawant Wadkar, Krisha Kurup, Rajeev Gaursingh, Sanjay Sonu and Jigar Shah.
