Mission Mangal Review (2019): In the landscape of Bollywood cinema, making space and science fiction movies has traditionally been viewed as an expensive venture, but director Jagan Shakti and the makers of Mission Mangal successfully rewrote history by producing a world-class cinematic experience on a modest budget. When the film arrived in theaters on the national holiday of August 15, 2019, it received an overwhelming response from audiences and critics alike. The movie was originally made with a production budget of approximately 40 to 45 crore rupees, yet it shattered box office expectations by grossing over 290 crore rupees worldwide. At the domestic box office alone, the feature surpassed the monumental 200-crore milestone, establishing itself as one of the biggest box office hits in the illustrious career of superstar Akshay Kumar.

## An Ensemble Star Cast and Unique Character Dynamics

One of the greatest highlights of Mission Mangal was its distinctive and powerful ensemble cast. The film featured Akshay Kumar and Sharman Joshi as the two primary male leads, anchoring the narrative with steady performances. Meanwhile, the core strength of the project lay in its five formidable female leads, played by Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Nithya Menen, and Kirti Kulhari. While multi-starer films frequently witness competition among actors for screen time and prominence, this feature ensured that every single character was given equal weight and dignity. The narrative brilliantly portrayed the unwavering dedication of female scientists alongside the delicate balance between their personal and professional lives, capturing the hearts of viewers everywhere.

## A Groundbreaking Plot Inspired by ISRO's Mars Orbiter Mission

The storyline of the feature is fundamentally inspired by the historic Mars Orbiter Mission of ISRO, which India accomplished with minimal funding and scarce resources. Director Jagan Shakti translated a highly complex and challenging scientific process into accessible, entertaining language that everyday viewers could easily understand. A standout scene that continues to thrill audiences to this day involves Vidya Balan's character, Tara Shinde, using a household frying technique rooted in basic home science to conceive an idea for powering the satellite engine so the spacecraft could reach Mars on reduced fuel. This exceptional blend of hard science and raw emotion proved to be the ultimate driving force behind the movie's massive appeal.

## Nail-Biting Climax and Patriotic Fervor

Even though audiences entered theaters already knowing that India's Mars Orbiter Mission had ultimately triumphed, the screenplay and climax were meticulously engineered to keep spectators glued to their seats. Technical complications during the rocket launch, looming threats of severe weather conditions, and tight impending deadlines delivered a thrilling cinematic experience that sent viewers' pulses racing. Released during the patriotic fervor of Independence Day, the film's deep sense of national pride successfully drew audiences of all age groups into the cinema halls. Mission Mangal transcended the boundaries of a standard commercial venture, serving instead as a heartfelt tribute to the unsatised and unsung women scientists who worked tirelessly to elevate India into a global powerhouse in space science.

## A Lasting Legacy of Women Empowerment

Ultimately, this cinematic triumph demonstrated that Indian women are capable of excelling everywhere, spanning from the domestic confines of a kitchen to the vast depths of outer space. Released in 2019, the movie continues to hold a cherished place in the hearts of viewers as a prime example of inspiring and entertaining cinema done right.
