"title": "No Traffic Signal Here — At Medininagar's Lata Mangeshkar Chowk, It's the Music That Makes You Pause",
"summary": "In Medininagar, in Jharkhand's Palamu district, the Lata Mangeshkar Chowk has become far more than a road junction — a cultural landmark where modern speakers play the late singer's melodies all day, offering passers-by a moment of calm.",
"content": "Even in an age of 5G and constant hurry, the pull of an older era's melodies hasn't faded. The voice of the late Lata Mangeshkar still has the power to move anyone who hears it. To give that feeling a permanent home, the town of Medininagar in Jharkhand's Palamu district has built a junction unlike any other — a place where passers-by don't merely cross the road but, for a few moments, lose themselves in song. The tunes that float through the air offer tired commuters a quiet sense of peace, a brief escape from the daily grind.\n\nA Junction Named for the Nightingale\nThe Medininagar Municipal Corporation created the chowk as a special gift to the town's residents. In honour of the Bharat Ratna and legendary singer, it has been named the \"Lata Mangeshkar Chowk\". At its very centre stands a large replica of a veena — a symbol of both music and India's cultural heritage. The corporation deliberately gave the surrounding area an attractive makeover so that the spot would serve not just as a point for traffic to pass through, but as a marker of the town's cultural identity.\n\nIndian Art on the Walls\nThe chowk and the adjoining green zone are dotted with artworks reflecting Indian culture and civilisation. The walls carry artistic depictions of various Kathak dance postures, offering a glimpse of Indian classical art. As a result, every visitor here feels connected to tradition even as they stand amid a modern setting.\n\nA Rs 68 Lakh Makeover of the Whole Area\nThe entire project took shape during the tenure of the then Municipal Commissioner Javed Hussain, at a cost of around Rs 68 lakh. The stretch running from Church Road in front of the Union Church up to Saddiq Manzil Chowk has been beautified with a pathway, paver blocks, eye-catching lighting, greenery and plantation. The green zone has been extended right up to the Mahila College, KG School and the Girls Hostel. Modern speakers installed here keep playing sweet melodies all day long, lending the place a distinctive charm.\n\nWhat the Locals Say\nLocal resident Manoj Kumar Ghosh told TrendKia that the atmosphere here turns thoroughly enchanting as evening sets in, with people arriving to spend time with family and friends. Shambhu Kumar said it has become Medininagar's most special and peaceful spot, where songs in Lata Mangeshkar's melodious voice bring a sense of mental calm. That said, residents and passers-by are also asking for a few extra amenities such as shade and drinking water, so they can find relief more easily during the harsh heat and the rains. All told, the Lata Mangeshkar Chowk is emerging as Medininagar's new hub of music, culture and calm.",
