Rahul Gandhi Slams Centre Over UGC-NET Re-Exam, Says PM Modi Created System That Cannot Conduct Single Test

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the central government over the cancellation and rescheduling of certain UGC-NET subject exams, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of creating a dysfunctional system.

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi strongly criticized the central government regarding the decision to reconduct the UGC-NET examinations for specific subjects. Launching a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he alleged that the current administration has built a framework that remains completely incapable of smoothly conducting even a single examination. He further emphasized that the precious years of students are being stolen, and until the Prime Minister provides answers on this matter, he will continue raising the issue.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha shared his views in a post on X. He stated that, much like every alternate paper leak or fiasco, he is fully convinced that no accountability will ever be fixed. Addressing every student slated to retake the exam in September, he noted that the candidates are not the problem. Instead, the fault lies with a system created by the Prime Minister that fails to conduct exams properly and then blames the test-takers themselves.

 
Rahul alleged that the National Testing Agency prepared faulty question papers and recycled old questions. Thousands of candidates prepared rigorously for years, paid application fees, and traveled long distances to far-flung examination centers, only to be forced to undergo the entire grueling process all over again in September.

Questioning the transparency of the process, he asked why the NTA is still dodging the real question of whether these question papers were leaked prior to the exam. He claimed that the agency refuses to own up to its mistakes and accountability will be entirely bypassed. The Congress leader maintained that while Union Education Minister Dharmendra Prasad's resignation was a necessary first step, it cannot be the last, and the leadership of the NTA must also be held accountable.

Recalling his past interactions, Rahul mentioned that he has previously voiced these concerns in Kota, Dehradun, and Prayagraj, and will continue to do so. He remarked that the education system has transformed into a machine that extracts money, youth, mental health, and self-confidence, while offering nothing in return, not even employment.

Notably, the NTA announced on Sunday that it is canceling and rescheduling the UGC-NET 2026 examinations for Sociology, English, and Commerce held in June. The testing agency took this step after receiving widespread complaints regarding glaring errors and repeated questions found within the question papers of these subjects.
