Residents of Rajasthan's Didwana Kuchaman district have a major reason for relief. The government Banger District Hospital can now carry out CT scans within its own premises, after a newly built CT scan wing was formally put into operation. With this modern machine in place, seriously ill and emergency patients arriving from villages and small towns across the district — including Didwana itself — will no longer have to rush elsewhere for the test.

## The Problem Until Now
Until this point, the hospital had no CT scan facility, which forced patients to travel to larger cities such as Jaipur, Jodhpur or Sikar for the examination. That meant spending both time and money, and in critical cases the resulting delay could prove dangerous.

## Who Stands to Benefit Most
The biggest gains from the new service will go to patients suffering from severe head injuries, brain haemorrhage, internal bleeding and neurological conditions. In such situations, a prompt scan often decides the course of treatment.

## Free for Some, Minimal Charge for Others
Under this free scheme, patients covered by the Mukhyamantri Ayushman Arogya Yojana, RGHS and ECHS will have their scans done here at no cost. Anyone who does not fall under a government scheme will need to get the test done at the hospital by paying a minimum charge against a receipt. In addition, if an emergency patient arrives who is not known to anyone, their scan will be carried out completely free of charge.

According to the hospital management, 15 to 20 patients had already been successfully scanned within just 48 hours of the machine's inauguration.

## How Much It Saves Against Private Rates
For the common person's pocket, the facility is nothing short of a boon. A routine CT scan at a private hospital or an outside diagnostic centre costs a patient anywhere between 2500 and 3000 rupees. But at Banger District Hospital, under the Chief Minister's free testing scheme and the government's PPP (Public Private Partnership) mode policy, the scan is being done entirely free, sparing needy and middle-class families thousands of rupees in financial burden.

## A Service That Runs 24 Hours
The hospital administration said the advanced machine has been installed in Room Number 22, equipped with a fully fitted lab. Under the PPP mode plan, provision has been made to keep the service running regularly around the clock. While many major tests in government hospitals usually shut down at night, this CT scan service will stay available day and night. That means patients arriving late at night after an accident or any other emergency can also be examined immediately.

## How Fast the Test Is
Patients can have a doctor write a CT scan order on their slip and go straight to Room Number 22. According to technical experts, a single patient's CT scan takes only 3 to 4 minutes to complete, and the moment it is done the scan film (print) is handed over within the next 2 to 5 minutes. The on-duty doctor can then study the print to form an initial idea of the patient's internal injury or illness. The detailed and final complete report prepared by a radiologist takes one and a half to two hours, but this does not hold up immediate treatment in any way.

Patients say that with this facility now running, they will no longer have to make rounds of private hospitals or travel to other cities just for a CT scan.
