As a 1989-batch IAS officer belonging to the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, Suchiang took office on September 30, 2021, breaking barriers as the state's first Khasi woman Chief Secretary. Beyond holding the highest bureaucratic office in the region as the first indigenous woman, she subsequently assumed the role of the state's first woman Chief Information Commissioner, further cementing her legacy in public administration.
