"title": "Monsoon Picks Up Pace: Heavy Rain Likely Across Maharashtra, Bihar and More in the Next Five Days as Heat Relief Nears",
"summary": "The southwest monsoon is advancing rapidly, and the IMD says conditions over the next 4-5 days favour its spread into Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand and several other states, promising more rain and relief from the punishing heat.",
"content": "Across much of the country, the weather is currently telling two very different stories. In several states, harsh daytime sun and hot winds are wearing people down, with sticky humidity taking over by evening. At the same time, the southwest monsoon is steadily widening its footprint over land. That tug-of-war makes the next few days especially important, because every step the monsoon takes brings the promise of relief from the relentless heat.\n\n \n\nHow Far the Monsoon Has Reached\n According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon's northern limit had stretched from the Arabian Sea all the way to the country's eastern belt by Sunday. The line currently runs through Harnai, Solapur, Hyderabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Kalingapatnam, Paradip, Baripada, Purulia, Dhanbad and Muzaffarpur. The weather office expects atmospheric conditions to remain favourable for the monsoon to push further ahead over the next 4 to 5 days.\n\n \n \n\nStates Next in Line\n During this window, the monsoon is likely to spread into more parts of Maharashtra, the remaining areas of Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and some additional pockets of Odisha. Alongside this, the southwest monsoon is also expected to enter Jharkhand, Bihar and parts of south Chhattisgarh. In short, a large stretch of central and eastern India could soon come under rain.\n\n \n\nMore Rain, Less Heat\n The IMD notes that as the monsoon advances, rainfall activity in these states is set to intensify, which should finally break the spell of heat that has gripped the region for months. The department is keeping a close watch on the system and issuing periodic updates so that people stay informed about the shifting weather.\n\n \n\nClouds Burst Across Rajasthan\n Rajasthan, too, saw a change in mood. Parts of eastern Rajasthan received rain on Sunday, while a few western areas got light showers. Encouragingly, no heatwave was recorded anywhere in the state during this period. As per the weather department's figures, the heaviest rainfall came in the town of Chomu in Jaipur district, where 44 millimetres (mm) was recorded. Chittorgarh logged 23 mm and Bhilwara 5 mm. The department added that, owing to a western disturbance, rain is likely over the next 4-5 days in the Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Kota and Jodhpur divisions.\n\n \n\nPhalodi Was the Hottest Spot\n Even amid this rain activity, the heat held its grip over western Rajasthan. Phalodi was the hottest place in the state, with the mercury climbing to 42.8 degrees Celsius. It was followed by Jaisalmer at 41.2 degrees, Barmer at 41.1 degrees and Churu at 40.9 degrees Celsius.\n\nWhat this means for you\n• Across India: With rain set to intensify over Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and south Chhattisgarh in the next 4-5 days, carry rain gear and plan travel or farm work around the latest weather updates.\n• In Rajasthan: Showers are likely across the Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Kota and Jodhpur divisions, but western pockets like Phalodi may still touch 42.8°C, so stay cautious in the sun and keep hydrated.",
