School Closures on October 22: Complete State-Wise Update From Varanasi to West Bengal School schedules vary across different states amid the festive season. While Varanasi has declared holidays for special local events, other regions have staggered reopening dates. Amid the vibrant festive season, the rhythm of children's education and holidays continues to alternate. Fresh off the long Navratri break, the administration in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, has announced an additional two-day holiday for educational institutions. This decision comes in the wake of the historic Nati Imli Bharat Milap, MLC elections, and an upcoming aerial display in the skies. Several other states across the country are also observing varying school closures during this period. From the southern states down south to West Bengal in the eastern region, the schedules for festive breaks differ significantly. While students in some areas are preparing to return to classrooms on October 22, institutions in other parts remain shut until October 26 due to Durga Puja and related celebrations. Checking the latest holiday updates has become essential for families to manage their daily routines. Parents can also verify the exact status by directly calling their children's respective schools. Two-Day School Closures in Varanasi The district administration of Varanasi has issued strict orders keeping all pre-primary to class 12 schools closed across the district on October 22 and 23, immediately following the conclusion of Navratri. The primary reasons behind this closure are the renowned Nati Imli Bharat Milap taking place on October 22 and the MLC election voting scheduled for October 23. District Inspector of Schools Bholendra Pratap Singh made it clear that this directive applies universally to government, private, CBSE, and ICSE affiliated boards alike, and strict action will be taken against any institution flouting the rules. Aerial Show Excitement and Traffic Adjustments For school children in Varanasi, these holidays bring an extra layer of excitement. During this exact window on October 22, 24, and 25, 2026, the city is hosting a grand Indian Air Force air show. More than 100 combat aircraft will showcase aerial maneuvers in the skies stretching between Namo Ghat and Assi Ghat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be present in Varanasi to witness the spectacle. However, the event will prompt heavy traffic diversions throughout the city, making it necessary for residents to plan their commutes carefully. Status of School Reopenings in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and West Bengal Looking at other regions of the nation, the holiday landscape presents a diverse picture. In Andhra Pradesh, following an extended break from October 10 to 21, schools are anticipated to reopen starting October 22. Meanwhile, educational institutions in Telangana are scheduled to resume classes from October 23. In eastern India, the festive atmosphere of Durga Puja and autumn vacations has not entirely faded in West Bengal. Several schools in the state may remain closed through October 26, with regular academics likely resuming from October 27, though this timeline may vary by individual institution. What this means for you Frequent schedule adjustments during the festive season require parents and working guardians to recalibrate their daily routines and travel plans accordingly. • In Varanasi: Following the district administration order, all schools will remain completely shut on October 22 and 23, requiring families to adjust their domestic schedules. Heavy traffic diversions implemented across the city for the air show may cause commuting delays for local residents. • Across India: With schools reopening on staggered dates across states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and West Bengal, parents must align their children's academic schedules and travel arrangements accordingly. To avoid any confusion, parents are advised to call and confirm the exact reopening date directly with their children's schools before sending them out. Why this happened These administrative holiday decisions have been implemented to accommodate major local events, religious celebrations, and official electoral duties smoothly. • Reason for Varanasi Closures: The historic Nati Imli Bharat Milap on October 22 and the MLC election polling on October 23 necessitate the two-day school shutdown. Additionally, managing law, order, and heavy crowds during the Indian Air Force air show scheduled for October 22, 24, and 25 requires strict administrative control over traffic and movement. • Other State Schedules: Holiday timelines in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and West Bengal are determined by regional festival traditions, Durga Puja breaks, and administrative calendars established by local authorities.
