In Sahaspur, on the outskirts of Uttarakhand's capital Dehradun, something as routine as water for irrigating a field spiralled into a clash that cost a young man his life. What began as a small argument quickly hardened into a violent confrontation between two communities. During the fighting, a youth named Vinod was surrounded by a mob and beaten to death, while two other young men were left critically hurt and remain under treatment.

## How Field Water Sparked a Deadly Clash
The police have laid out the sequence of events. According to SP City Pramod Kumar, the two sides involved in the clash already shared an old enmity. On Saturday, Vinod and his brother were drawing water from a government tubewell to irrigate their field. The owner of the neighbouring field, Imtiyaz, objected — and that objection is where the dispute ignited. Imtiyaz then arrived with around a dozen men and launched an attack on Vinod and his brother.

SP City Pramod Kumar said, 'There was an old enmity between the two sides involved in the violent clash. On Saturday, Vinod and his brother were filling water into their field from a government tubewell. When Imtiyaz, the owner of the adjoining field, objected, a dispute broke out between the two sides. Imtiyaz, along with around a dozen people, attacked Vinod and his brother. Vinod, badly injured in the violent clash, died during treatment, while his two brothers are in a serious condition.'

## News of the Death Sets the Area Ablaze
Word of Vinod's death spread through the area like wildfire. People from the other side poured onto the streets, demanding strict action against the accused and creating an uproar. Protesters blocked the road, and the demonstration continued late into the night. Police had to put in considerable effort to clear the blockade and bring the situation under control. During the protest, the crowd raised loud slogans, demanding bulldozer action against the accused and the adoption of the 'Yogi model' in Uttarakhand.

## Family's Demand — No Body Until Homes Are Razed
The dead youth's family dug in on its demand for bulldozer action against the homes of the accused. They made it clear that they would not allow Vinod's body to be taken away until the houses of the accused were demolished. The family also said that as long as their home was in mourning, they would not allow the azaan to be sounded in the area. They expressed hope that the Chief Minister's representative would come and give them answers, and claimed that their Dhami ji is no less than Yogi ji — that whatever Yogi ji has done in Uttar Pradesh, Dhami ji would do here.

## MLA at the Spot, Area on High Alert
Amid the tension, members of a Hindu organisation and local MLA Munna Chauhan also reached the scene, where everyone vented their anger before the police. Given the violent clash between the two communities, the administration is fully on guard. To keep the situation in check, police forces from several stations have been deployed in the violence-hit area, and the PAC was also called in late at night to deal with any untoward situation.
