The Bankipur bypoll is being held because BJP leader Nitin Nabin resigned from the seat. Nabin had won Bankipur by a huge margin as the BJP candidate in the 2025 Bihar assembly election, but he later moved to the Rajya Sabha. After that move, he resigned from the Bankipur assembly seat, leaving it vacant and triggering the bypoll now scheduled for July 30.

Niraj Sinha also filed his nomination from Bankipur on July 13, the same day as Kishor. The last day of filing saw considerable high voltage drama on the seat.
