Police in Rajasthan have uncovered a massive cyber fraud operation operating under the guise of an E-mitra digital service center in Mukundgarh, located in the Jhunjhunu district. A joint team from Mukundgarh Police and the Cyber Police Station arrested the prime accused, identified as Ankit Kumar, a resident of Kaseru. Investigations revealed that within a span of just 18 months, the accused established an illicit cyber fraud network handling over 40 crore rupees. By misusing the Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, and biometric thumb impressions of unsuspecting citizens visiting his Customer Service Point and E-mitra shop, the accused fraudulently opened bank accounts to launder stolen money for cybercriminals in exchange for cash commissions.

## Uncovering the Fraud and the Victim's Account

The fraudulent operation came to light following a formal complaint lodged by a local resident named Akshay on 4 August 2026. In his police report, Akshay stated that on 10 April 2025, he visited Ankit Kumar's E-mitra center to set up an SSO ID. Under the pretext of completing the digital registration process, Ankit collected his Aadhaar and PAN cards, made him provide his biometric thumb impression between 15 and 20 times, and made him wait at the shop for approximately 4 to 5 hours.

During this prolonged waiting period, Akshay received multiple transactional SMS notifications on his mobile phone from FINO Payment Bank. However, Ankit surreptitiously took possession of Akshay's phone and deleted the bank text messages immediately. Eventually, the accused sent Akshay home after claiming that the server was non-operational. Subsequent inquiries disclosed that Ankit had opened an unauthorized account in Akshay's name at FINO Payment Bank without his consent, subsequently utilizing it to route funds derived from cyber fraud activities.

## Transactions Exceeding 40 Crore Rupees Across 16 Accounts

Detailed financial investigations revealed that the 31 year old accused, Ankit Kumar, resident of Kaseru village under Mukundgarh police station, maintained 16 personal bank accounts in his own name. These 16 accounts alone recorded suspicious transactions exceeding 40 crore rupees over a timeframe of 18 months. Furthermore, among the 92 bank passbooks seized during the raid, several linked bank accounts were found to be associated with 16 cyber crime complaints registered across various states in India.

According to law enforcement officers, the accused leveraged his Customer Service Point center to collaborate directly with active cybercrime syndicates. He accepted illicit money cheated from victims nationwide into these bank accounts and handed over equivalent cash to the cyber criminals after deducting his agreed-upon commission. This setup allowed the cyber gangs to convert fraudulently obtained digital money into untraceable cash with minimal risk of immediate detection.

## Police Raid and List of Seized Evidence

This major law enforcement breakthrough was executed under the strict directives of Superintendent of Police Kavendra Singh Sagar (IPS). The overall raid operation was supervised by Additional Superintendent of Police Devendra Singh Rajawat, Circle Officer Sugan Singh, and Cyber PS Incharge Ramkhiladi Meena. The joint raiding party was led by Mukundgarh Police Station Incharge Gopal Singh Thalor and Cyber PS Incharge Gopal Lal Jangid.

During the search, law enforcement authorities confiscated substantial physical evidence from the suspect's premises. The seized items include 2.68 lakh rupees in cash, 2 laptops, 1 mobile phone, 17 ATM cards, 92 bank passbooks, 7 cheque books, 38 Aadhaar cards, and 1 micro ATM device. Investigators suspect that these documents and digital tools were actively being used to create additional fraudulent accounts for laundering illegal proceeds.

## Ongoing Investigation into Network and Co-Accused

Following the arrest of Ankit Kumar, police and cyber crime teams have broadened their investigation to dismantle the wider syndicate. Investigators are currently tracing the identity of co-accused individuals and associate members involved in the network. Additionally, efforts are underway to trace the original sources of the cheated funds as well as the destination accounts where the multi-crore sums were dispatched. Senior police officials indicated that further revelations regarding nationwide cyber crime operations are expected as interrogation continues.
