According to the IMD, a strong weather system is currently gripping the state, triggering rapid changes across several major districts. Late in the night the department issued a Nowcast Weather Warning, with six key districts at the centre of its concern.

The six districts facing the biggest threat
An orange alert has been declared for Jaipur, Ajmer, Nagaur, Tonk, Bundi and Didwana-Kuchaman, where intense thunderstorms and squally weather are expected. The department has urged residents in these areas to take special precautions, warning that the shift could be aggressive and severe. The administration has gone on alert in the wake of the warning.

Yellow alert across more than a dozen districts
Beyond the orange-alert zone, large parts of western and eastern Rajasthan have been placed under a yellow alert. Bikaner, Churu, Jodhpur, Pali, Beawar, Bhilwara, Pratapgarh, Kota, Chittorgarh, Jhalawar, Baran and Sawai Madhopur may see scattered light-to-moderate thunderstorms with sudden gusts of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour. Lightning strikes and light-to-moderate rain are also likely in these areas. After days of blistering heat, the change has come as a major relief for the public.

Capital Jaipur: clouds roll in, mercury drops
Jaipur has seen the most dramatic swing. Figures from the Meteorological Centre, Jaipur, show the city's maximum temperature over the past 24 hours at 34.4 degrees Celsius, a full 4.5 degrees Celsius below normal. The minimum settled at 22.1 degrees Celsius. Jaipur also recorded 12.2 millimetres of rain during the same period.

The outlook ahead is just as clear. The IMD's local forecast says Jaipur will see partly cloudy skies over the next 24 hours, with the maximum hovering around 37 degrees and the minimum near 24 degrees. The late-night orange alert warns that Jaipur and its surroundings could face dust storms, lightning and rain with winds of 60 to 80 kmph, keeping the weather pleasant.

Hail feared in Ajmer, Bhilwara and Nagaur
The department has sounded a serious warning for Ajmer and Bhilwara. Ajmer's maximum temperature stood at 36.2 degrees Celsius, 3.7 degrees Celsius below normal, while the minimum slipped to 20.0 degrees Celsius. Bhilwara logged a maximum of 36.1 degrees Celsius. Both districts face the prospect of intense thunderstorms accompanied by hail, and fierce dust storms could sharply cut visibility in several areas.

Western Rajasthan's Nagaur is also seeing nature's fury. The district recorded a maximum of 36.1 degrees and a minimum of 22.7 degrees. Under its orange alert, Nagaur could be lashed by squalls touching 80 kmph. Bikaner, meanwhile, registered a maximum of 37.8 degrees and a minimum of 23.0 degrees, with 4.2 mm of rain in the past 24 hours. Bikaner and Churu are under a yellow alert, which flags sudden strong winds and dust storms with light rain.
