Operation Langda Tightens the Net: UP Police in Four-District Encounter Blitz, Wanted Criminals Shot in the Leg

Under Uttar Pradesh Police's ongoing Operation Langda, separate encounters took place in Bareilly, Agra, Gonda and Amethi, leaving several wanted criminals shot in the leg and netting accused in robbery and murder cases.

The grip of Uttar Pradesh Police on the state's criminals continues to tighten. The ongoing Operation Langda is back in the spotlight after police clashed with armed offenders in four different districts in a single stretch — Bareilly, Agra, Gonda and Amethi. Several wanted men were shot in the leg during these operations, while others were arrested in serious cases of robbery and murder.

Bareilly: One Shot in the Leg, the Other Falls Off His Bike
In Bareilly, police came face to face with a criminal named Omkar, who was injured after being shot in the leg. His accomplice, Karan Maurya, tried to flee at the same time but fell off his bike and was hurt. The two accused — Omkar and Karan — are aged 22 and 23 respectively. Police had been searching for the pair in a robbery case; just four days earlier they had carried out a robbery on a passerby. The encounter took place near Devipur Bazaar under Baheri police station.

Agra: Accused in a Woman's Robbery and Murder Caught
In Agra, a murder accused was arrested during an encounter. Here too the accused was shot in the leg and admitted to hospital for treatment in an injured state. The case dates to 10 June, when a woman was first robbed and then murdered. The robbery and killing were pinned on Manu Nishad, a resident of the victim's own village. Looted jewellery, a bike without a number plate, a country-made pistol (tamancha) and cartridges were recovered from Manu Nishad. The encounter took place on Bateshwar Parikrama Road in the Khera Rathaur police station area.

Gonda: Inter-District Theft Gang Busted, Cash and Ornaments Seized
In Gonda, police confronted a gang of inter-district thieves. One hardened criminal, Ram Chandar, was injured after being shot in the leg during the encounter. Along with Ram Chandar, Naim and Chand Babu were also arrested. Police recovered 93 thousand in cash, 11 grams of gold and 1.1 kilograms of silver from the criminals. Cash and jewellery from robberies and thefts were also seized. In addition, 1 illegal country-made pistol along with live and empty cartridges were recovered. The men were nabbed in the Karnalganj Kotwali area.

Amethi: Robber Carrying a Rs 25,000 Reward Wounded
In Amethi, police and robbers exchanged fire, leaving Imran — a cunning robber carrying a reward of 25,000 — shot in the leg. He was admitted to hospital for treatment. On 2 June, Imran and his associates had held a woman hostage in her own home and robbed her. Two of the robber's accomplices have already been sent to jail in the case. Looted ornaments, a country-made pistol and cartridges were recovered from the accused. The encounter took place near Gangaram Purwa Mod in the Jais Kotwali area.
