After a crushing defeat in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) now appears to be coming apart at the seams. The very leaders who once roared from stages during the campaign have fallen silent after losing, sitting subdued and shaken. One such figure is Jahangir Khan, who was once seen addressing crowds of thousands of supporters and launching sharp attacks on his rivals. But the picture has now turned completely on its head. Having gone underground after the election, Jahangir Khan has been nabbed by the West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) near the Nepal border. The STF paraded him in such a manner that everyone who watched it remarked- oh, what has become of Jahangir Khan?

## Where Was Jahangir Khan Arrested?

The moment the West Bengal Assembly elections ended, TMC leader Jahangir Khan suddenly vanished. The STF had to put in considerable effort to track him down, but the team finally struck gold and arrested Jahangir Khan near the Nepal border. As soon as news of the arrest broke, it set off a stir in West Bengal politics. Following his capture, several of his photos and videos are now going viral.

## Why Are Jahangir's Arrest and the UP Police in the Spotlight?

With Jahangir Khan's arrest, the name of IPS officer Ajay Pal Sharma is once again in the news- the same officer about whom Jahangir Khan had said that if Ajay Pal Sharma is Singham, then I am Pushpa. In fact, during campaigning for the Falta Assembly seat, allegations had surfaced that voters in some areas were being pressured and influenced. Following this, Ajay Pal Sharma, along with his team, reached the homes of Jahangir Khan's close associates and issued a clear warning that no attempt should be made to intimidate any voter or interfere with the polling process during voting.

## Why Did Jahangir Khan's Troubles Mount?

Around seven FIRs have been registered against Jahangir Khan at the Falta police station, several of which are also linked to the electoral process. As these cases were investigated, the matter reached the court, and Jahangir Khan secured temporary relief from arrest for a while, because the Calcutta High Court had granted him interim protection on 18 May. This was granted solely so that he could take part in the re-poll for the Falta Assembly constituency held on 21 May. It may be noted that re-polling was conducted on the Falta seat and its results were declared on 24 May. The protection he had received until then was later withdrawn.
