Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday telephoned Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to take stock of the flooding affecting several parts of the state, with officials confirming that Shah gave the Chief Minister an assurance of the Centre's wholehearted support in managing the emergency. During the call, Shah made specific enquiries about the scale of destruction wrought by rivers that have breached their banks, the officials added. Posting on social media after the conversation, Sarma said he had apprised the Home Minister of the ongoing relief and rehabilitation operations being carried out across flood-hit regions of the state. "He has given us his word that the Government of India will extend every possible form of help and assistance to address this emergency," Sarma stated. Sarma also expressed gratitude to Shah for personally reaching out to enquire about the flood conditions in Dhemaji, thanking the Home Minister for his concern.
