Images of the next-generation version of Hyundai's well-known premium hatchback, the i20, have appeared online even before the official launch. These leaked pictures offer a look at the new i20 being readied for the global market, featuring crossover-style design, a strong presence on the road and an entirely new cabin. The company is expected to officially unveil it soon, while the launch is anticipated to take place later this year.
This new generation will replace the current i20 and will be built around Hyundai's latest design philosophy. The leaked photos clearly show a production-ready model that looks more upright, rugged and packed with technology than before. With this update, the i20 will step into the hatchback segment carrying an SUV-like appeal that could draw in younger buyers in particular. The company has made major changes to both the exterior and interior, improving the car's overall presence as well as the user experience.
The biggest highlight of the new i20 is its crossover-inspired look. It comes with squared-off proportions, black body cladding and a high riding stance. Up front, the slim headlamps have been integrated into a wide black fascia, giving the car a clean and minimalist appearance.
The side profile reveals sharp body creases, blacked-out pillars and newly designed alloy wheels. At the rear, connected LED tail lamps stretch across the full width. These changes create a silhouette completely different from the older i20 and considerably sharpen its road presence. The leaked images suggest that Hyundai has focused on giving this model a stronger SUV-like appeal.
New Interior and Panoramic Display
The most significant transformation is seen in the interior. The new dashboard layout is centred around a large panoramic display that houses the digital instrument cluster and the infotainment screen within a single unit. This layout feels similar to the recently launched new Venue.
Physical buttons have been retained for the main functions, while the centre console now looks far cleaner and more modern. The steering wheel is new as well and appears inspired by Hyundai's latest global models. The door pads get a dual-tone treatment, circular speaker elements and redesigned grab handles. The entire dashboard architecture has been reworked to deliver a premium feel, making the cabin experience noticeably better than before.
The leaked images also show the luggage compartment. The boot space looks spacious and practical. The rear seats come with split-folding, adding to cargo flexibility. Thanks to the taller roofline and boxier proportions, headroom and cabin space are expected to improve, making the car more comfortable for long trips.
For now, the technical specifications have not been officially released. International versions could get updated turbocharged petrol engines paired with mild-hybrid technology to meet stricter emission norms. In the Indian market, meanwhile, the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated and 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine options are likely to continue.
