The weather in Bihar is about to take a turn. With the monsoon slowly advancing toward the state, its effects are expected to become clearly visible on June 17. According to the weather department's forecast, several parts of the state could see thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds that day, offering some relief from the ongoing heat.
Where Strong Winds and Rain Are Expected
The biggest impact is likely to fall on the districts of north Bihar and southwest Bihar, where wind speeds could touch 40 to 50 kilometres per hour. Alongside this, an alert for heavy rain at one or two locations has been issued for Bhagalpur, Katihar, Kishanganj and Purnia. People in these districts have been specifically asked to stay alert.
Districts Likely to See Light Rain
In the northwest Bihar districts of West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan and Saran, light rain is possible at some places. Meanwhile, the north-central Bihar districts of Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani and Sitamarhi may also receive showers at one or two spots.
No Respite for South-Central Bihar
On the other hand, most parts of south-central Bihar, including Patna, Nalanda, Gaya, Nawada, Jehanabad, Begusarai, Lakhisarai and Shekhpura, are expected to stay dry. The chance of rain here is low, but humidity could continue to trouble residents.
How Hot Will It Get
On June 17, the maximum temperature in Patna and south-central Bihar is forecast to range between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius. Across most districts of north Bihar, the mercury is likely to stay a little lower, between 34 and 38 degrees Celsius.
Safety Advice for Residents
The weather department has urged people to keep away from open fields, trees and electric poles during bad weather. During lightning and strong winds, residents have been advised to take shelter in a safe place to avoid any mishap.
