Police in Bihar's Gaya district have scored a significant breakthrough in a high-profile robbery case. In their bid to crack the Rs 45 lakh heist, officers have caught two notorious criminals, arresting them after a late-night encounter in which both men were shot in the legs during return fire. The two injured accused are currently being treated at Magadh Medical College Hospital.
How the encounter unfolded
The action played out near Banahi Mod in the Amas police station area. Police had received a secret tip that some of the criminals involved in a major robbery at Gurua Bazaar were hiding in the locality. Acting immediately, a police team rushed to the spot and cordoned off the entire area.
As the personnel closed in, the cornered men opened fire on the police. Officers returned fire, and in the ensuing exchange two of the criminals were hit and wounded. Both were arrested on the spot.
Who the arrested men are
According to police, the injured criminals have been identified as Sunil Kumar alias Sujit Chaudhary and Shravan Kumar. Sujit Chaudhary took two bullets in his leg, while Shravan Kumar was hit by one bullet in the leg. Both were rushed to hospital without delay, where treatment is ongoing.
The May 27 crime
The investigation has revealed that both accused were part of the major robbery at Gurua Bazaar on May 27. That day, the criminals first shot a jewellery trader and then fled with jewellery worth around Rs 40 lakh and Rs 5 lakh in cash. Police had been hunting for them ever since.
Recovery and what comes next
After the encounter, police recovered part of the looted jewellery from the two accused. Investigators believe questioning will yield crucial leads about the gang's other members. Following that trail, police are now carrying out continuous raids to track down the remaining criminals still on the run.
Gaya police say this success is a major step toward fully exposing the Gurua robbery. Officials claim the other criminals linked to the case will soon be behind bars as well. Police are now interrogating the wounded accused to map the gang's entire network, raising hopes that several more secrets tied to the heist will come to light.
