Anticipated Relief Amidst Shifting Weather Patterns
Many parts of the country have been eagerly awaiting pre-monsoon rains after mid-June. Now, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) brings a much-needed forecast of relief. The combined activity of a Western Disturbance and the strengthening Southwest Monsoon is set to completely transform India's weather. From the scorching plains of North India to the hilly regions of the Northeast and the coastal areas of South India, a new weather phase is anticipated nationwide. According to the IMD, increased cloud cover, widespread thunderstorms, and rain will be observed over the next few days, leading to a drop in temperatures across several states. However, this relief comes with associated risks; strong winds, hailstorms, and lightning strikes are also expected in many areas. Consequently, the weather department has issued a special alert for 17 states.
Monsoon's Progress and Intensification
The northern limit of the monsoon has now reached Harnai and Solapur in Maharashtra, Hyderabad in Telangana, Koraput and Phulbani in Odisha, Ranchi in Jharkhand, and Jamui and Muzaffarpur in Bihar. The weather department states that the monsoon is likely to advance rapidly into more parts of Telangana, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh within the next 4 to 5 days. During this period, the Western Disturbance will also remain active, causing a sudden shift in North India's weather. Wind speeds of 60 to 80 kilometers per hour could be experienced in some states, while heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted for Northeast India. Overall, the upcoming days promise relief from the heat, but this favorable weather could also present challenges in various regions.
Region-Specific Weather Outlook
Delhi-NCR Braces for Thunderstorms and Relief
Delhi-NCR is expected to experience a change in weather patterns on Friday. According to the IMD, partially cloudy skies, light rain, and strong winds, potentially reaching 50 to 60 kilometers per hour, are forecast for several areas. While this will offer some temperature relief, the maximum temperature could still climb to 42 degrees Celsius. Dust storms and light rain are also anticipated on June 20 and 21.
Uttar Pradesh to Witness Heatwave and Rain
Uttar Pradesh will experience a dual weather scenario. A heatwave warning has been issued for many districts in Western and Eastern UP, including Meerut, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, and Varanasi, where hot winds may cause discomfort. Simultaneously, some districts are likely to see light rain with thunderstorms. The IMD believes that the situation will improve next week with the further progression of the monsoon.
Bihar on Alert for Heavy Rain and Strong Winds
Thunderstorms and rain are likely in several districts of Bihar, including West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, and Samastipur. Some locations could experience heavy rainfall, accompanied by winds of 60 to 80 kilometers per hour. This weather pattern is expected to continue across the state until June 22.
Monsoon Strengthens in Jharkhand
Monsoon activities are set to gain momentum in Jharkhand. Thunderstorms and rain are forecast for Ranchi and other districts. Weather scientists indicate that the monsoon will advance further into the state in the coming days, leading to a drop in temperatures and creating better conditions for agricultural sowing.
Dust Storm Threat in Rajasthan
Both Eastern and Western Rajasthan could witness sudden weather changes. The IMD has issued an alert for dust storms and light rain in several districts, with wind speeds potentially reaching up to 70 kilometers per hour. Residents in Jaipur, Bikaner, Jodhpur, and surrounding areas are advised to remain cautious.
Madhya Pradesh Expects Storms and Rain
Eastern and Western Madhya Pradesh are likely to experience strong winds of 50 to 70 kilometers per hour. Rain is anticipated in several parts of the Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, and Gwalior divisions. The IMD suggests that monsoon progression will further intensify rainfall activities across the state.
Punjab and Haryana See Changing Weather
The impact of the Western Disturbance and a cyclonic circulation forming over the Rajasthan-Punjab region will be evident in Punjab and Haryana. Haryana, in particular, will see continuous weather changes from June 19 to 23, including dust storms and light rain in many districts. The moisture influx from the Bay of Bengal combined with the active Western Disturbance is making the weather more impactful.
Important Advisory for Public and Farmers
Farmers, travelers, and the general public across the country are advised to continuously monitor these changing weather patterns. Special precautions should be taken in areas under alert for lightning and strong winds. These shifting weather conditions can directly impact agricultural operations, making it crucial to follow the regular updates issued by the IMD.
