A heartbreaking incident has come to light from Jehanabad in Bihar, where the relentless blackmail by a young man and a leaked obscene video pushed a 19-year-old woman to take her own life. Mentally shattered, she finally hanged herself. The most disturbing part of the case is that even before the tragedy, a panchayat and a compromise had been worked out between both sides in the presence of police, yet the accused refused to stop.
How the blackmail began
The incident is linked to a village in the Hulasganj police station area. It is being reported that during her student days, the woman had become friends with a young man named Amarjeet Kumar alias Dheeraj, a resident of Surdaspur village. Taking advantage of this friendship, Dheeraj allegedly filmed some obscene videos of her and then used them to blackmail her again and again. According to family members, when her marriage was fixed elsewhere, the accused grew angry and began threatening to make the videos public.
A panchayat out of fear of disgrace, and a broken settlement
Fearing social shame and disgrace, the family initially chose not to file a police complaint and instead tried to settle the matter locally by calling a panchayat in the village. Notably, a compromise was even arranged between the two sides in the presence of the police administration, in which the accused assured them that he would delete the videos. But that assurance did not last. As the woman's wedding date drew closer, the accused once again leaked the allegedly obscene video on social media.
Alone at home, she took the drastic step
On the day of the incident, all the family members had gone to the field to harvest moong (green gram), and no one was present at home. It was during this time that the woman, completely broken by the mental strain, hanged herself and ended her life. When the family returned and learned of the tragedy, there was an outpouring of grief, with the relatives left inconsolable.
Police action and investigation
As soon as they were informed, police reached the spot. They took the body into their custody, sent it to the Sadar Hospital for a postmortem, and launched an investigation into the matter. Statements from the family members have also been recorded.
