Patna Builds Free Roadside AC Lounges for Delivery Riders, Complete With Charging Points and Cold Water

Patna Smart City Limited has set up two free air-conditioned lounges for gig workers, offering phone charging, cold water and comfortable seating during work hours.

Every day, thousands of delivery riders weave through the streets of Patna, and each season throws a fresh test their way. In the blistering summer heat, even covering the stretch between one order and the next can feel punishing, while the monsoon and the humidity bring their own troubles. On top of that, a phone dying mid-shift, no clean drinking water within reach, and nowhere to sit and catch a breath have all become routine parts of the job. Now there is some welcome relief for them.

Two Modern Resting Rooms in the City

For the first time, Patna has set up special roadside AC lounges designed with gig workers in mind. The rollout is beginning at two spots. One lounge sits near Gate No-4 of Gandhi Maidan, and the second has been built close to Income Tax Golambar. The idea is to give delivery staff a cool space, the essentials they need, and a few minutes of calm, all in one place during their working hours.

A First of Its Kind in Bihar

This is the first time such a facility has been created for gig workers and delivery partners anywhere in the state. Each resting room has been fitted with around a dozen charging points for mobile phones. Alongside these, there are two air conditioners, CCTV surveillance, an arrangement for cold water, space to keep belongings, and comfortable seating.

Both lounges have been developed by Patna Smart City Limited. Each one can seat roughly 15 people at a time. The most notable part is that the entire facility will be completely free for gig workers. Power and water will be available here around the clock, so that any worker arriving at any hour is never left stranded.

Affordable Refreshments on the Way

Construction of both AC lounges is already complete, and they are expected to be inaugurated soon. The plan does not stop at seating and charging. In the days ahead, there are plans to offer low-cost refreshments to the gig workers who drop in. For this, Jeevika Didis will be brought on board to run stalls selling buttermilk, aam panna and other drinks at affordable rates. That way, not just delivery partners but passersby too will be able to grab a refreshing drink along with a moment of rest.
