Craving a Hit Since Kabir Singh: Shahid Kapoor Says Back-to-Back Flops Shook His Confidence, Now Leans on His Team

Shahid Kapoor has admitted that the failures of 'Deva' and 'O Romeo' dented his confidence in picking films, so he now brings his team along when listening to scripts. His film 'Cocktail 2' hits theatres on June 19.

Shahid Kapoor is currently busy gearing up for the release of his upcoming film 'Cocktail 2', which arrives in theatres on June 19. Caught up in the film's promotions, the actor has admitted that after the failure of films like 'Deva' and 'O Romeo', his confidence in choosing films has taken a serious hit. What's more, he now finds himself leaning on his team for help with such decisions—something Shahid himself has revealed.

What Shahid Kapoor Said About Picking His Films

In a recent interview with 'The Hollywood Reporter India', Shahid spoke about the difficulties of working in an industry that is forever changing and where nothing can be said for certain. Even though he has spent several years in cinema, he made it clear that experience is no guarantee of success at the box office. Shahid said, 'When you have been working for so long, you feel you should be doing things even better. But that's not really how it works. Films are extremely unpredictable.' He also pointed out that while an actor can influence a part of his own performance, the final outcome of a film hinges on many things—such as the director's vision and how the audience receives it.

Will Now Choose Scripts With His Team

Talking about the lessons drawn from the troubles he faced with films like 'Deva' and 'O Romeo', Shahid mentioned a major change in the way he goes about his daily work. He shared that when it comes to choosing films, he has now begun to doubt his own judgement. He said, 'It's possible that I know very well what to do in front of the camera, but perhaps I don't know which films to pick.' Shahid went on to say that he often selects films based on his artistic sensibility, and it may be that this sense does not always align with the audience's taste or expectations. For this reason, he now prefers having at least three members of his team present while he listens to a script. Earlier he felt more comfortable listening to scripts alone, but he now believes that the opinions of more than one person can help him assess projects in a better and more impartial way.

Shahid Has Craved a Superhit Since Kabir Singh

Shahid Kapoor has delivered several superhit and memorable films over the course of his career. But since 'Kabir Singh', released in 2019, none of his films has turned out to be a superhit. 'Kabir Singh' was the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2019. After that, Shahid worked in films like 'Jersey' in 2022, 'Farzi', 'Bloody Daddy', 'Deva' and 'O Romeo', but all of these flopped. That said, 'Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya', released in 2024, was not a flop in terms of earnings—though even this film failed to earn the tag of a hit.
