A Sushasan Tihar camp held in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, was thrown into turmoil when an 87-year-old woman, utterly disillusioned with the system, demanded euthanasia. Balkunwar Basor, a resident of Bilgahna, sent a letter on the matter to both the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister. Her plea was unambiguous — either she should be given justice, or she should be allowed to die. The victim has also submitted an application to the IG. The woman said that her husband and both her sons have passed away, and she has been living entirely alone ever since. During this time, a BJP-supported panch named Phagun Prasad Prajapati, alias Monu, showed her sympathy and assured her of every kind of help, from getting her bank KYC done to anything else she needed.
According to the victim, Monu transferred Rs 23 lakh from her SBI account into his own account on 14 December 2021. The allegations did not end there — the woman claims he also fraudulently got her 2.5-hectare agricultural land in Gram Panchayat Loofa registered in his name. Since then she has been running from pillar to post seeking justice, but nowhere is her grievance being heard. Now her only request is that she be either granted justice or granted euthanasia.
On Thursday, Balkunwar Basor reached the office of IG Ramgopal Garg to meet him, but the meeting could not take place. She then handed her application to DSP Vivek Sharma and narrated her entire ordeal. In the application she had also mentioned her demand for euthanasia. The DSP assured her that the IG would review the case and that further action would be taken on that basis.
It is worth noting that the Sushasan Tihar campaign run in Chhattisgarh has now concluded. The campaign ran from 1 May to 10 June. Its final camp was held in Gram Ghar Bodsara of Takhatpur. On this occasion, Gaurishankar Suryavanshi, a farmer from Sakri tehsil, raised a complaint before officials that the demarcation of his land had been delayed for the past 6 months. He alleged that in exchange for the work, the concerned revenue inspector was demanding a bribe of Rs 15,000. He said he had complained even to the SDM and the Collector, but no action followed. Exhausted, he is now filing an application at the Sushasan Tihar. Suryavanshi warned that if the demarcation of his land is not completed within 15 days, he will set himself on fire.
