An incident that would shake any mother's heart has come to light from Jashpur district. At the district hospital here, a simple, unsuspecting rural family that had come to get treatment for their one-month-old sick newborn was trapped by an unknown woman. Posing as a helper, the woman approached the helpless family, won their trust, and then disappeared with the barely one-month-old infant in her arms. The shocking crime triggered chaos and wailing across the hospital premises. Sensing the seriousness of the matter, Jashpurnagar police swung into action immediately and clamped down a tight blockade across the entire district to track down the accused woman.
According to the information received, the incident is linked to village Marangipath, which falls under the Bagicha development block of Jashpur district. Dasua Ram, a resident here, had come to the district hospital along with his wife Somri Bai and his mother Agni Bai to get their one-month-old sick child examined. The victim family belongs to the Pahari Korwa community, a particularly vulnerable tribal group. As they waited outside the hospital's OPD with the child in their arms for the doctor, an unknown woman arrived there. Presenting herself as deeply caring and helpful, she struck up a conversation with the family and soon won their confidence. In the course of the talk, the woman pointed towards the child's leg and said the baby had a stiffness in its leg, which she would completely cure through faith-healing.
The innocent rural family fell completely into the trap of the cunning woman's sweet talk. Taking her conspiracy further, the woman then made the family members drink ‘Hadiya’, their traditional rice-based liquor, which left them slightly drowsy. Soon after, on the pretext of treating them to a free full meal, she led the family towards a hotel located close to the hospital. There, the moment the family members' attention slipped just a little, the woman vanished in the blink of an eye with the helpless infant in her arms. When the family came to their senses and could not see the child anywhere around, they broke down and began wailing. On being informed by the hospital management, teams from Gandhinagar and the local police rushed to the spot immediately. Police are scanning CCTV footage on the one hand, while on the other they have sealed all the exit points of the city in their search for the accused woman.
