The country's biggest blend of sport and entertainment has once again pushed past its own ceiling. Figures shared by official broadcaster JioStar show that the 19th edition of the IPL has become the most watched season ever staged. The data, released out of Mumbai, says the full league reached 1.2 billion viewers, a seven percent rise on the previous year. With records falling on both television and digital, the numbers reaffirm exactly which event sits at the top of India's viewing habits.
Who Lifted the Trophy
The season closed with a tense final in Ahmedabad, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) beat Gujarat Titans by five wickets. The win handed the side its second IPL title in a row.
Fans Stayed Glued to the Screen
According to JioStar, TATA IPL 2026 drew more than 1.2 billion viewers, marking a seven percent year-on-year increase. Audiences stayed connected longer than ever, with total watch time climbing to 870 billion minutes. The sharpest spike came during the final, which doubled the viewership at a stroke. That match became the most watched TATA IPL fixture to date, seen on screen by over 40 crore people.
Digital and Regional Languages Take Off
Progress on digital screens stood out this season. Connected TV viewing grew by 22 percent. Views on digital video reached 25 billion, eight percent higher year on year. Most striking of all, the share of fans watching matches in their regional language on digital rose by 33 percent, a sign that viewers are increasingly enjoying the game in their own tongue.
How the Viewing Experience Changed
The broadcast this year was shaped around shifting fan preferences. Coverage across 12 languages, a multi-cam experience and 30 feeds were joined by the newly launched ‘Champions wali commentary’, which brought in legends of the game, former champions and well known commentators. On top of that, weaving OpenAI and Swiggy into the TATA IPL experience made watching live sport feel more personal and convenient for every viewer.
The Advertising and Partnership Math
Brands placed as much trust in the platform as the fans did. Compared with last season, JioStar signed on 125 new advertisers. Alongside that, 22 sponsors partnered directly with JioStar, while 16 sponsors linked up with the Star Sports Network.
What Comes Next
With this blockbuster season wrapped up, JioStar will now broadcast the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 for its audience between 12 June and 5 July. The Men in Blue, India's national team, will also head out on an England tour from 1 July, where they are set to play five T20Is and three ODIs.
