With the heat refusing to let up, many had assumed that schools in Chhattisgarh would push their summer break even further. The Education Department has now put those guesses to rest. In an order issued by the department, it has been made clear that the new academic session will begin on June 16, 2026, and that all private and government schools across the state will open their doors to students on the very same date.
A School Welcome Festival on Day One
The reopening will coincide with the Shala Pravesh Utsav (school admission festival), which will be held statewide on June 16. The School Education Department has sent every district the instructions needed to prepare for it. The School Education Secretary has written to all the state's District Education Officers (DEO) and Joint Directors (JD), asking them to complete every arrangement for the event on schedule.
Teacher Attendance Moves Online
Alongside this, the department has taken a major administrative step aimed at improving transparency and accountability. The Directorate of Public Instruction (Lok Shikshan Sanchalnalay) has made an online attendance and online leave-application system compulsory for teachers and staff at all government schools in the state, effective June 16 — meaning even leave requests will now have to be filed online. Taking a firm line, the department has warned that any negligence in following this system will lead to the staff member's salary for the month of June being withheld.
Repairs and Cleaning Before the Bell Rings
The department wants the new session to begin in an upbeat and orderly fashion so that students are welcomed into a pleasant environment. With that in mind, officials have been told to pay special attention to repairing school buildings, cleaning the premises and ensuring basic facilities are in place. Where required, painting and other necessary work are to be finished in good time, and a special drive has been ordered to keep school campuses clean.
Welcoming Newcomers and Boosting Enrolment
The department has also stressed that all arrangements should be completed before schools reopen so that students face no difficulties. During the admission festival, new students will be welcomed, with a clear push to enrol as many children as possible. The event, officials believe, will help draw children and their parents closer to their schools.
