A devastating road accident on the Vadodara-Jarod road in Gujarat claimed five lives early on Tuesday after a fast-moving luxury bus packed with passengers smashed into a truck moving ahead of it. More than eight people were left injured in the crash. Preliminary findings indicate that the bus had set off from Banswara in Rajasthan and was on its way to Surat when it met with the accident near Kotambi village in the Jarod area.
Passengers Caught Off Guard in Their Sleep
Most of the people on board were fast asleep when the bus crashed, leaving them no chance to react. The impact was so powerful that the front portion of the bus was crushed completely, trapping several travellers inside the mangled section. The sudden collision in the dead of night turned what should have been an ordinary overnight journey into a tragedy.
Rescue Teams Rush to the Spot
As soon as word of the accident spread, the Jarod police were the first to reach the site, and a full-scale relief and rescue operation was launched soon after. With reports that several passengers were stuck inside the wreckage, teams from the SDRF, NDRF and the Vadodara Fire Brigade joined hands to pull them out safely. The operation to free the trapped passengers continued for a considerable time.
Injured Shifted to SSG Hospital
Those hurt in the crash were quickly moved to the SSG Hospital in Vadodara so they could receive timely medical care. Meanwhile, the highway accident triggered a heavy traffic jam in the surrounding area, with long queues of vehicles building up for hours.
Police Probe Under Way
The police and other agencies involved are now working to establish exactly how the bus came to hit the truck with such force. An investigation into the real cause of the accident is currently in progress. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
