The date of 12 June 2025 still shakes the entire country to its core. That ill-fated Air India flight took off, only to turn into a wreckage of death within mere seconds. More than 260 people lost their lives in this horrifying disaster. Today, exactly one year has passed since that pain. The investigation files moved ahead, the compensation was paid out too, but what never returned were the smiling faces of loved ones. In this very crash, Parvez Vohra of Thasra village in Gujarat's Kheda district, his little 5-year-old daughter and his aunt lost their lives. What is the state of this family a year later? That is what our special ground report tells you—
He Had Returned Home Just 10 Days Before the Crash
Thasra village in Kheda district. Parvez Vohra, a resident of this very place, had been settled in London for the past four years. Just 10 days before the crash, he had come back to his homeland with his 5-year-old daughter. The reason was dental treatment and a longing to meet his parents. Who could have known that this reunion would turn out to be the last.
He Had Driven Only a Few Kilometres From the Airport When the News Arrived
On 12 June, Parvez's brother Romil Vohra had cheerfully dropped him at the airport and had barely set off back when a piece of news on his phone pulled the ground from under his feet. Romil Vohra recounts, "I had gone only a few kilometres after leaving my brother when I learnt that the flight had crashed. We rushed to the civil hospital. The whole day nothing became clear, but at 10 at night, when they asked us for a DNA sample, I understood that my family was no longer in this world."
His Wife Was 9 Months Pregnant in London
At the time of the crash, Parvez's wife was 9 months pregnant in London. She was called to India on a false pretext—that everyone was in the ICU. When she reached here and learnt the truth, it was as if the sky had fallen on her. Just a few days after Parvez's last rites, his wife gave birth to a son. For a moment the family felt as though Parvez had returned, but the reality is that this newborn and his 8-year-old sister have lost their father's shadow forever.
The Compensation Came, but Those Who Are Gone Will Never Return
It must be noted that Tata and Air India did pay the compensation, but Romil alleges that the attitude of the airline and the administration remained insensitive. The truth is that even after a year has gone by, several burning questions are still alive in the minds of the victims' families. After all, who is responsible behind this disaster? How far has the black box investigation reached? Romil Vohra says plainly, "We just want to know who the culprit is. Let the black box probe be conducted with complete transparency. Whoever is guilty must get the harshest possible punishment."
The days of these families, who lost their loved ones in the crash, are somehow passing by, but the memories of that fateful day are still unable to leave their minds. Now they wait for just one thing—that the guilty get the punishment they deserve.
