Police have scored an important breakthrough in the murder of Jitendra, a differently abled resident of Dighal village in Haryana's Jhajjar district, a case that has drawn wide attention. An investigating team travelled to Mumbai and detained three people, one of them a minor. District Police Commissioner Dr. Rajshree shared the details of the operation with reporters.
Who Was Taken Into Custody
Speaking at a press briefing held in the presence of ACP Shamsher Singh, Police Commissioner Dr. Rajshree said the people arrested were Deepanshu, a resident of Dabauda Khurd, Vishal alias Hanuman Nagadhiya from Kalana village in Rajasthan, and a minor. The minor was produced before the court and sent to a reform home, while the two others were placed on four days of police remand.
Two Were Wanted With Rewards
According to the Commissioner, Rajasthan Police had announced a reward of 25,000 rupees each on Vishal and the minor accused. Both already face several cases in Rajasthan under serious sections including murder and robbery. They had been evading arrest for a long stretch and kept shifting their hideouts. It was through technical analysis and intelligence inputs that the police team finally tracked them down in Mumbai and caught them.
Backdrop of a Bloody Feud
It is worth noting that Dighal village has been gripped by an old and bloody feud for some time, with the two sides repeatedly targeting each other. As part of this rivalry, Sahil alias Sonu was killed first, and just a few days later 52 year old differently abled Jitendra too was gunned down. The attackers opened a barrage of fire at night while Jitendra was asleep in a room of his own house.
His Disability Made Him a Target
Family members say Jitendra was unable to get up on his own, and the killers exploited this very vulnerability to single him out. Carried out by intruders late at night, the killing had spread panic across the area. Dr. Rajshree said questioning of the arrested men is still under way and the weapons used in the crime are yet to be recovered. She expressed confidence that several key facts could come to light during the remand. The Commissioner added that other absconding accused linked to the case are on the police radar and raids are being conducted continuously to arrest them.
