Dr. Jyoti Singh, a dietitian at the divisional hospital, told TrendKia that there is no home remedy capable of completely eliminating thyroid trouble, though its impact can certainly be reduced. Doing so requires equal attention to both the body and the diet. She points out that several misconceptions circulate among people, such as the belief that eating cabbage or soybean raises thyroid levels. In reality, that is not the case. What can happen is some mild discomfort if these foods are taken alongside medication.
Which Foods Are Beneficial
According to Dr. Jyoti Singh, foods like soybean are best eaten after being soaked for 8 hours and then cooked. Brazil nuts can also be added to the diet, as they contain a good amount of selenium. They are highly effective in lowering the effect of thyroid and also help activate hormones. The one drawback is that they are expensive.
If Brazil nuts are not available, flaxseed can be used instead, which supplies the body with omega 3. Coconut is also considered very beneficial. Dr. Jyoti Singh advises choosing fresh coconut and eating roughly a two inch piece daily. This too provides omega 3 and boosts the level of nutrients in the body.
Physical Activity and Eating Habits Both Matter
Dr. Jyoti Singh reiterates that thyroid affects both women and men, but women are more affected by it. A major reason is that women face more hormone-related issues, which is why they need to be especially careful.
To guard against thyroid trouble, attention should go not just to diet but equally to physical activity. According to Dr. Jyoti Singh, daily meals should include plenty of fresh fruit, protein, water and fiber. When everything about the body stays healthy, she says, hormone-related problems simply do not arise.
