The monsoon has now picked up full pace over Jharkhand, and its effect will be visible across most of the state on 17 June. According to the Ranchi weather office, skies over the majority of districts will stay overcast that day, with thunderstorms and rain bringing welcome relief from the humidity in many places. The capital Ranchi, along with the southern and eastern districts, is likely to enjoy distinctly pleasant weather, while parts of the Palamu division may still remain in the grip of heat.
Rain Expected in These 11 Districts
The weather department has issued a rain alert for a total of 11 districts, including Ranchi, Khunti and Simdega. The districts where moderate to good rainfall is forecast are Ranchi, Khunti, Simdega, Gumla, Purvi Singhbhum, Pashchimi Singhbhum, Saraikela-Kharsawan, Bokaro, Ramgarh, Dhanbad and Jamtara. Several of these places could see sharp showers accompanied by thunder and lightning, which will pull temperatures down and ease the muggy heat that people have been enduring. At the same time, strong winds blowing at 40 to 50 km per hour may add to the trouble, and the threat of lightning strikes and storms will persist through the day.
Where the Risk of Lightning and Storms Is Highest
The weather office has flagged a large swathe of the state for strong winds, lightning and storms. Winds could reach 40 to 50 km per hour in particular over Ranchi, Khunti, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Giridih, Deoghar, Dumka, Pakur, Sahibganj and Godda. In such conditions, farmers and people working in open areas have been advised to stay especially alert, since exposed ground is the most dangerous place to be during a lightning strike.
Where the Heat Will Bite the Hardest
While much of the state will be soaked by rain, the mercury could stay high in north-western Jharkhand. Temperatures in parts of Palamu, Garhwa, Chatra and Latehar are expected to run higher than in other districts. In Daltonganj and its surrounding areas, the maximum temperature could hover between 37 and 40 degrees Celsius. The saving grace is that gathering clouds and light rain towards evening may take some of the edge off the heat, though residents have still been urged to stay cautious.
The Most Pleasant Weather Will Be Here
On the other hand, some areas will enjoy the most comfortable conditions all day. In Ranchi, Netarhat, Khunti, Simdega, Pashchimi Singhbhum and the surrounding plateau regions, drifting clouds and intermittent rain will keep temperatures below normal. The maximum temperature in these districts is likely to stay around 28 to 32 degrees Celsius, which feels like a real gift in the summer season.
