As soon as June began, residents across Madhya Pradesh started waiting eagerly for the rains. The state has recorded below-normal rainfall this season, leaving people struggling with both heat and sticky humidity. Now, however, the skies are beginning to change, and the weather department says relief is likely over the next few days.
Today's Forecast Across the State
According to the weather department, rain is expected in 33 districts today. Alongside this, 5 districts could see conditions deteriorate with strong winds and thunderstorms. Many areas are likely to remain overcast through the day with light showers. Officials have urged people to stay cautious during spells of bad weather.
Districts Bracing for Rain and Thunder
The IMD has flagged the possibility of rain and thunderstorms in several districts, including Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Sehore, Rajgarh, Narmadapuram, Betul, Harda, Shajapur, Agar Malwa, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Gwalior, Rewa, Satna, Shahdol, Damoh, Umaria, Katni, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Mandla, Panna, Sagar and Pandhurna. The department expects the weather to turn after noon, with some regions possibly receiving heavy rain.
Storm Alert for Eight Districts
Separately, a strong-wind alert has been issued for Datia, Bhind, Morena, Seoni, Balaghat, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh and Niwari. Winds of 50 to 60 kilometres per hour are likely in these areas. There is also a risk of lightning strikes and hailstorms at some locations.
When Will the Monsoon Arrive
The southwest monsoon is gradually gathering pace and is expected to enter Madhya Pradesh between June 15 and 18. As per the weather department's daily weather discussion (12.06.2026), the monsoon advanced on June 12, 2026 into some more parts of West Bengal and Bihar, along with parts of Odisha and Jharkhand. Once it turns active, most parts of the state could see good rainfall.
Relief on the Way for Farmers
The monsoon's arrival will bring the biggest relief to farmers, since ample rain is essential for sowing kharif crops. For now, temperatures remain above normal in many districts, but clouds and rain could pull the mercury down in the coming days. The weather department is keeping a constant watch on the situation and issuing updates from time to time. People have been advised to stay in safe places during strong winds, lightning and rain.
