US President Donald Trump (@realDonaldTrump) shared his views openly on a major dispute brewing in the world of golf through a post on the social media platform Truth Social. He flatly rejected the USGA's attempt to cut down the distance a golf ball travels.
Who He Congratulated
In his post, Trump first extended congratulations to Commissioner Brian Rolapp, the PGA Tour, and the Governing Bodies. He also credited and praised Jay Clayton, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, for the achievement. He described the development as a "BIG VICTORY."
What the Issue Was About
According to Trump, the USGA wanted to roll back the distance of a golf ball for whatever reason. He stated that they are now precluded from doing so, at least for a long number of years. Trump called the entire idea ridiculous, saying nobody wanted it, especially PGA Tour Players. In his words, no one wants to go to a course only to be told that their drives will now be going 20 yards shorter.
Trump's Suggestion
The President also offered what he believes the USGA should actually do. In his view, the organisation should agree that far into the future, they will not allow the current ball to go further. In other words, he argued the ball should be kept exactly the same as it is now.
Emphasis on Golf's Popularity
Pointing to golf's current surge, Trump said the game is "hot as a pistol," meaning it is enjoying tremendous popularity. He argued that at such a moment, the last thing anyone should do is tell people, for no reason whatsoever, that they will no longer be able to hit a ball as far as they used to. He closed the post by asking whether anyone has ever heard of anything so ridiculous, signing off as President DONALD J. TRUMP.
