Diljit Dosanjh's film 'Satluj' has disappeared from its streaming platform just three days after its release. Earlier made under the title 'Punjab 95', the film went through years of delay and controversy before it finally released on Zee5 on July 3, 2026. The biopic, based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, was drawing a strong response from both audiences and critics when word suddenly broke that it had been pulled from Zee5 India.
Viewers report the film abruptly stopping
The issue came to light after several viewers complained on social media that the film suddenly stopped playing midway through. Some users also claimed the film was no longer showing up on the platform at all. As these complaints grew, viewers began asking what could have happened within just a week of release that forced a film generating so much buzz to be taken down.
Zee5 confirms the film has been pulled
Responding to these complaints, Zee5 shared an official statement on Instagram confirming that 'Satluj' has been removed in India until further orders. The statement read, "The response 'Satluj' has received since its release has truly been overwhelming. We are grateful to every viewer who watched the film and supported it. Your love and support means a great deal to us, as well as to everyone who made this film and brought it to the screen. Zee5 continues to stand firmly behind 'Satluj' and the creative vision behind it, because we believe powerful stories have the power to inspire people, stay with them for a long time, and leave a deep impact. We remain committed to supporting true and meaningful stories."
Will the film return? Zee5 offers assurance
The platform further clarified in its statement that 'Satluj' had to be removed because of the current circumstances, and that the film will not be available in India until further orders. However, Zee5 also assured that it is making every possible effort to bring the film back to its audience, and is committed to doing so properly by following due process. The statement added that the platform's commitment to stories told with creative honesty and purpose remains unwavering. The development comes as a big setback for viewers who had finally been able to watch the film after a four year wait, making its sudden removal disappointing for many.
Harbhajan Singh's emotional post on X
Former cricketer and MP Harbhajan Singh also shared his views on the film on social media. In his post on X, he wrote, "Jallianwala Bagh is one of the biggest massacres in history. It was carried out by colonial rule. But the question that comes to my mind after watching 'Jaswant Singh Khalra' is a different one. What is more painful than cruelty inflicted by outsiders? It is more painful when the very people responsible for protecting their own become the biggest cause of their fear. A police officer's duty is to protect the innocent, not to misuse power. Khalra's courage reportedly brought to light evidence of unlawful disappearances and secret cremations. It reminds us that the misuse of state power can leave wounds that last for generations. Many mothers in Punjab are still waiting for answers. Many families are still waiting for justice. The truth cannot be suppressed forever. Honey Trehan and Diljit Dosanjh have done an outstanding job in bringing Jaswant Singh Khalra's story to the world. His courage should always be remembered." Harbhajan Singh's post added further momentum to the conversation around the film, right around the time the platform announced its removal.
The story and the cast
'Satluj' is a biopic based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. The film is directed by Honey Trehan, with Diljit Dosanjh playing the lead role. He is joined by Arjun Rampal, Kanwaljit Singh, Suvinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan in key roles. Given the strong early response the film received after releasing amid four years of delay and controversy, its sudden removal from the platform has left viewers, the cast and everyone associated with the film disappointed.
