Patna: Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD) president Tej Pratap Yadav has spoken openly for the first time after handing his security cover back to the government. He made it clear that he feels no need for personal protection. In his words, "We have returned the security. Let the women of Bihar stay safe, that is our security. We do not need any security at all."
What Actually Happened
The episode began on Monday, when a post was shared from Tej Pratap Yadav's X handle. It stated that, as the national president of his party, he had returned all of his security arrangements to the government. According to the post, the matter was already within the knowledge of the Bihar government.
The post also explained that he had been provided security while he stayed outside Bihar, but the moment he returned to the state he himself gave up all of it. The same post argued that responsibility for his safety, and for any untoward incident, would now rest with the government, since ensuring the security of opposition leaders is the government's duty in a democracy.
