Gangster Sandeep, better known as Kala Jathedi, has won a significant legal reprieve from Delhi's Patiala House Court in a case linked to arms smuggling. The court has ordered his release after concluding that there was not enough evidence against him in this matter. Even so, his coming nights will still be spent behind bars, as he is already in judicial custody in several other criminal cases.
How Kala Jathedi Was Drawn Into the Case
The case took shape when some accused who had been arrested in an arms smuggling network named Kala Jathedi during questioning. Acting on those statements, Delhi Police arrested Sandeep alias Kala Jathedi in connection with the matter. After securing his remand from the court, the police questioned him continuously for about six days, trying to establish whether he had any direct link to this smuggling network.
Why the Police Case Did Not Hold Up
Despite six days of intense interrogation, the police could not gather any concrete proof to show that Kala Jathedi was directly involved in the arms smuggling. After closely examining the records and the investigation report placed before it, the Patiala House Court came to the conclusion that sufficient evidence was simply not available against the accused in this case. On that basis, the court ordered his release.
Why He Still Cannot Walk Free
Even after the court's order, walking out of jail is not an option for Kala Jathedi. The reason is straightforward: several other criminal cases are pending against him, and he is already in judicial custody in connection with those cases. As a result, his detention will continue and he will keep facing the legal process, despite getting relief in this one arms smuggling matter.
A Long Criminal Record
Kala Jathedi has a long criminal history and has remained on the radar of investigating agencies in numerous cases. That is precisely why his legal troubles are far from over even after the court's relief in a single case. For now, the Patiala House Court's decision is being seen as only temporary relief for him, while the legal process in his other pending cases continues to move forward.
