National Highway-58 in the Riyanbadi area of Nagaur district turned deadly once again on Tuesday night. Near the Padukalan bypass link road, two motorcycles slammed into each other head-on with such force that two people, including the former sarpanch of Mewada, died on the spot, while a third man was left critically injured.
How the Crash Happened
According to eyewitnesses, both motorcycles were speeding straight towards each other. The impact was so violent that both vehicles were smashed to pieces and the riders were thrown far across the road. Chaos broke out at the spot moments after the collision, with people from nearby villages rushing in to help the injured.
108 Ambulance Did Not Reach in Time
Villagers say that at the very moment the injured needed to be rushed to hospital, the 108 ambulance service was simply not available. Left with no choice, locals arranged a camper vehicle themselves and carried the injured and the dead to hospital. The critically injured man was referred for better treatment after first aid, and his condition remains a cause for concern.
Anger Among Villagers
The delayed and missing ambulance has triggered deep anger among local residents. They argue that a service which fails to deliver help during a genuine emergency is of little use. Questioning the delay in getting the injured to hospital, villagers have demanded an inquiry into how the ambulance service operates and action against the officials responsible for the negligence.
Police Probe and Mourning
On receiving information, police reached the scene, seized both damaged motorcycles and launched an investigation. Officers said every angle is being examined to establish the exact cause of the crash. The bodies have been kept in the hospital mortuary for post-mortem. As news of the former sarpanch's death spread, grief gripped the entire area, and large numbers of villagers and public representatives arrived to console the bereaved families.
Demands From the Administration
Local people have urged the administration to conduct a fair investigation into the accident, strengthen road safety measures along the highway, and review the working of the 108 ambulance service, so that no other family has to face a similar tragedy in the future.
