The case of new mothers falling seriously ill at Bikaner's PBM Hospital continues to draw attention, with both the health department and the district administration keeping a close watch on the situation. Against this backdrop, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal personally arrived at the hospital on Sunday evening to take stock of how the admitted patients were doing.
A Detailed Sit-Down With the Medical Board
After reaching the hospital, the minister held an extensive meeting with the medical board on duty and went through every detail of the treatment being provided. He spoke at length with the doctors about the patients' current condition, the course of their treatment and the resources available at the facility. Meghwal made it clear to the board that there should be no negligence whatsoever in any patient's care and that every new mother must receive the best possible medical attention.
Briefing the Chief Minister and the Top Secretary
Following his visit, the minister phoned Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma to report on the entire episode and brief him on where things stood. He also spoke with Principal Secretary Gayatri Rathore, sharing a detailed account of the ongoing treatment and the arrangements in place at the hospital.
Relief for Tara Devi After 21 Days
According to the hospital management, five new mothers are currently admitted in the ICU, where a team of specialist doctors is monitoring them around the clock. The biggest piece of good news involved Tara Devi, who had been in the ICU for 21 days; with her condition improving, she has now been discharged. Her return home brought relief to both her family and the doctors who had been treating her.
The picture, however, is not yet reassuring for everyone. Preeti and Sharda remain in a serious condition and both are on ventilator support. Their state is critical, but doctors are keeping a constant watch and continuing the necessary treatment. The remaining three new mothers are showing a gradual improvement, which the medical team regards as a positive sign.
Hourly Monitoring Inside the ICU
Doctors on the medical board said a separate, specialised treatment plan has been drawn up for each patient, and that the condition of every woman admitted to the ICU is being reviewed every hour. The hospital administration also reiterated that no laxity is being allowed at any level and that all resources have been directed toward patient care. Before leaving, the minister instructed the management to keep the patients' families regularly and accurately informed and to maintain full transparency throughout the treatment process. He stressed that the matter is extremely sensitive and that no lapse of any kind would be tolerated.
