Suman Yadav's Inspiring Achievement
Suman Yadav, a resident of Alwar, Rajasthan, has achieved an extraordinary milestone at 52 years of age, securing a silver medal at the recently concluded World Yogasana Championship. Her triumph has not only brought international recognition to India but has also positioned her as a role model for millions of women across the country, demonstrating that dedication and hard work know no age limit.
Representing India on the Global Stage
The prestigious global competition, held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, saw participation from 522 athletes representing 78 countries worldwide. Competing in the 45-55 age category, which included players from 20 nations, Suman Yadav delivered a stellar performance to clinch the second spot. She noted that many of her competitors in this age group were younger than her, yet her unwavering commitment led her to secure the silver medal.
The Genesis of a Yoga Journey: 2015 to 2019
Suman Yadav's journey into yoga began in 2015 when she was in Kota for her children's education. Inspired by observing people practicing yoga in Vrindavan Park, she decided to adopt a regular yoga routine herself. Initially, her primary goal was to maintain good health, but her interest in yoga gradually deepened. She not only committed to her own practice but also began teaching others. After joining the education department, she extended her efforts to train girls and female teachers in self-defense and yoga. Through consistent practice, she honed her skills and started participating in yoga competitions for the first time in 2019.
Rising Through National Ranks
Once she entered the competitive arena, Suman Yadav rapidly ascended the ranks. In her very first state-level competition, she secured the first position. Subsequently, she made her mark in national-level competitions, earning a spot among the top 10 players. By 2020, she was among the top 6 national players, an achievement she maintained for several consecutive years. According to TrendKia, she participated in the Yogasana Bharat competition, organized by the Government of India, at the district level from Bahror, followed by a first-place finish at the state level in Udaipur, and another first place at the national competition held in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. These successes led to her selection by the Sports Ministry among the top three players, granting her the honor of representing India at the World Yogasana Championship.
Dedication Fuelled by Support
Beyond her competitive achievements, Suman Yadav also serves as a PTI teacher in a government school, a role that further highlights her dedication. She meticulously balances her professional responsibilities, household duties, and rigorous yoga practice. Her daily routine includes waking up at 5 AM for practice and dedicating another two to three hours to yoga in the evening. Suman credits her husband and children for their unwavering support at every step of her journey. She expressed that winning the World Yogasana Championship was her dream, and the silver medal she now holds is a testament to that resolve and hard work.
