Motorola has rolled out a new mid-range contender, the Moto G Max 5G, and most of the buzz is centred on its camera. But pinning this phone down as a camera-only device would be a mistake. Between a capable chipset, a generous battery, a bright display and toughness usually reserved for rugged handsets, Motorola has built something that aims squarely at far pricier rivals. Where it launched and what it costs
For now, Motorola has introduced the device in the Brazilian market, and it is expected to reach other countries under the Moto G87 name. There is only one configuration on offer — 8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage — priced at BRL 2,519.10, which converts to roughly Rs 47,000. Buyers can pick it up in two finishes: Blue and Graphite.
The camera that anchors the phone
The standout act here is the rear camera. Motorola has fitted a 200MP main sensor and claims that, with software enhancement, it can deliver super-detailed shots of up to 220MP. The Moto G Max 5G carries a 6.8-inch 1.5K Supreme AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, keeping both scrolling and gaming fluid. Its headline trait is a peak brightness of 5,000 nits, which means the screen stays clearly visible even under blazing sunlight. Protecting all of this is a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 7i.
Toughness that punches above its class
Durability is often where mid-range phones cut corners, but Motorola has leaned into it. The handset carries IP66, IP68 and IP69 ratings together, meaning dust and even strong jets of water won't trouble it. On top of that, it holds a MIL-STD-810H military-grade certification, helping it survive demanding and rugged conditions.

On the performance front, the phone runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 6400 processor that comfortably handles heavy gaming and multitasking. It packs 8GB of RAM, expandable up to 16GB through the virtual RAM feature. The software is Hello UI based on the latest Android 16, promising a clean and smooth experience.
