The television industry is in mourning once again. The sudden death of actress Sanchita Ugale, who was only 22, has left her fans, family and fellow artists deeply shaken. Known for her work in popular serials such as 'Kumkum Bhagya' and 'Wagle Ki Duniya', Sanchita was found dead at her home in the Nalasopara area of Mumbai on Monday. According to initial information, the case is being treated as a suspected suicide.
A wave of grief across the industry
As news of her passing spread, sorrow swept through the small screen fraternity. Actor Sorab Bedi, who had worked alongside her in 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge', remembered her in an emotional Instagram post. He wrote, 'No chhotu... you were my favourite, you are and you always will be. You will be missed terribly.' His words offer a glimpse of just how dear Sanchita was to those who shared the set with her.
What was found inside the house
According to the police, the incident took place on the evening of June 14 at the Sai Santoshi building in Achole village, Nalasopara East. Sanchita was reportedly found hanging from a ceiling fan with a saree in her bedroom, the door of which was locked from the inside. Her family rushed her to the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation Hospital, but after examination doctors declared her dead.
Vinod Bag, API at the Achole police station, shared the details with the media: 'This incident happened on June 14 between 7 pm and 7:30 pm. Sanchita had locked the door from inside and hanged herself from the ceiling fan in her bedroom with a saree. She was taken to the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation Hospital for treatment, where doctors declared her dead after examination. On June 15, based on a complaint by the deceased's father Machinda Ugale, the Achole police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).' The police are still working to establish the exact reasons behind the step and say the real cause will only emerge after a complete investigation.
The brother's questions and allegations against Bollywood
Sanchita's brother Avinash has made some claims about her death that have stunned everyone. He revealed that her last Instagram post was dedicated to the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who passed away on June 14, 2020. Avinash says Sanchita chose that very date, June 14, to end her life, on an evening when she was alone at home.
Avinash alleged that constant pressure in the entertainment industry, a shortage of work opportunities and repeated humiliation from seniors had pushed Sanchita to this extreme. Expressing his deep anger openly, he described the Bollywood and television industries as extremely toxic and dirty.
