Checking Drive Turns Tense in Hamirpur: Dumper Driver Tries to Ram ARTO's Vehicle to Dodge Action, Team's Alertness Averts Tragedy

During a transport department checking drive in Hamirpur's Sadar Kotwali area, a dumper driver involved in illegal transport tried to ram the ARTO's government vehicle instead of stopping. The team's quick reaction prevented a major accident, and the driver was caught near the Yamuna bridge.

Despite a continuing crackdown on transport violations in Uttar Pradesh, some offenders neither follow the rules nor fear action against them. An incident from Hamirpur underlined this once again, when a dumper driver's recklessness and aggression during a checking drive nearly turned into a serious accident. Had the officials and staff on the spot not acted with presence of mind, the episode could have cost lives.

How the Incident Began

The case unfolded in the Sadar Kotwali area, where a transport department team was carrying out an intensive inspection of vehicles. During this drive, the team spotted a dumper that was being used for illegal transport. Officials signalled this very dumper to halt so that it could be examined.

Driver Speeds Off and Targets the Vehicle

Instead of complying, the driver accelerated and began to flee the spot. He is alleged to have tried to ram the ARTO's government vehicle while making his escape. The driver's actions triggered panic at the checking point and left the situation tense for a few moments. Fortunately, the team stayed alert in time, so no major accident took place and no one was harmed.

Caught Near the Yamuna Bridge

After the driver fled, the transport department team kept up the chase and pursued him relentlessly. The dumper was finally stopped near the Yamuna bridge and the driver was apprehended. He was then taken into custody.

Action Against Both Driver and Owner

The department is now preparing to send the accused driver to jail. It is not only the driver who faces consequences — the process to register a case against the vehicle's owner has also been set in motion. According to ARTO Praveen Kumar, the driver will be sent to jail and a case will also be lodged against the vehicle owner.

Department's Firm Stand

Following the incident, the transport department has made its position clear. Officials say that strict action of this kind will continue against those engaged in illegal transport and against anyone who obstructs official duty.
