An attempt to throw around authority backfired badly in Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow, when a young man posing as an IPS officer saw his entire claim collapse right in front of the police. The incident took place in the Gol Market locality under the Mahanagar police station, where a single packet of butter worth Rs 40 ended up exposing his fake officer act.
How the Whole Row Began
Late in the evening, the man, sporting a stiff collar and a twirled moustache, walked up to a shop and picked up a packet of butter priced at Rs 40. When the time came to pay, instead of reaching for his pocket, he announced that he was an officer posted in Noida and flatly refused to hand over the money. The shopkeeper kept asking for payment, but the man kept stalling under the cover of his supposed rank. Finally, the frustrated shop owner called the police to the spot.
Arrogance Continues, Demands a Salute
The man's attitude did not soften even after the police arrived. He not only dragged his feet over paying for the butter, but also began pressuring the officers present to salute him. The sub-inspector and constable who reached the scene made it clear to him that a salute is given only to officers who are in uniform. A large crowd gathered around during the episode, which the police pushed back. A video of the entire incident is now going viral on social media.
Dodged When Asked for ID
When the police asked him to show an ID card to confirm his identity, he could not produce any document. He kept repeating that he would show it the next morning. Instead of an ID, he flared up and started demanding the names of the policemen themselves. That was the moment the suspicion of the police deepened further.
Mithilesh Shukla Detained, Case Registered
During questioning, the man was identified as Mithilesh Shukla. He failed to show any valid document proving that he was an IPS officer or that he was posted in Noida. With suspicion confirmed, the police took him into custody and registered a case against him on the complaint of the Mahanagar police chowki in-charge, beginning further legal action. The man is currently being questioned to establish who he really is and why he was pretending to be an officer.
