Four Days of Happiness, Then Mourning
A home where the henna had barely dried and the wedding music still lingered was suddenly plunged into grief. In Banpurwa village, which falls under the Handia police station area of Prayagraj's Gangangar zone, the mysterious death of a newly married young man has shaken the entire locality. Barely four days into married life, the groom's journey ended — and the bride who had arrived to build a new life found her vermilion and bangles rendered meaningless within hours.
A Grand Wedding on 7 June
Santosh, a 28-year-old resident of the village, had married on 7 June amid much celebration. The rituals were completed, the wedding party returned, and Santosh brought his bride home. The family was immersed in welcoming the new daughter-in-law and in the festivities. No one had imagined that this happiness would last for so few days.
Body Discovered Hanging on Thursday Morning
On Thursday morning, villagers were stunned to see a body hanging from a noose on a tree outside the village. On going closer and identifying it, they realised it was Santosh. The news spread through the village like wildfire and panic quickly gripped the area. On receiving word, family members rushed to the spot.
Wails Fill the Home After Identification
The moment the body was identified, the house echoed with cries. The young bride collapsed, unconscious, on hearing of her husband's death, while Santosh's parents and other relatives were left inconsolable. Police from the Handia station reached the scene, took the body into custody and sent it for a post-mortem examination. They inspected the site closely and questioned people in the vicinity.
Brother Missing, Mother Accuses Relatives
The incident has also raised several questions. The deceased's brother, Sushil, is reported to have been missing since the incident, and police are searching for him. Meanwhile, Santosh's mother has levelled serious allegations against some of the family's relatives. Family members say they had been in a dispute with certain people. Police say the allegations are being investigated and that action will be taken only after all the facts are established.
