Punjab Woman Found Dead in Rented Hapur Room With Injury Marks; Husband Who Moved In a Week Ago Goes Missing

Anu Devi, originally from Mandi in Punjab, was found dead in a rented room in Nagla Udayrampur village near Dhaulana. Injury marks on the body and her absconding husband have deepened suspicions of murder.

A young woman's death in Nagla Udayrampur village, under the Dhaulana police station area of Hapur district, has shaken the entire locality. When her body was recovered from a room in a rented house, the surrounding circumstances were enough for police to suspect from the outset that this was no ordinary death. Local police rushed to the spot as soon as they were informed, and sensing the seriousness of the case, a forensic team was also summoned to begin collecting evidence from the room.

Who Was the Victim

Initial inquiries and conversations with people in the area identified the woman as Anu Devi. She was originally from Mandi in Punjab and was living here with her husband, who is said to be a resident of Azamgarh. The couple had moved into this house on rent only about a week earlier, and had not yet submitted any identity documents (ID) to the landlord.

Injury Marks on the Body, Husband Absconding

The injuries found on the woman's body strengthened the suspicions of the police. It is initially believed that she was killed by being struck with some solid object. What has deepened the suspicion the most is that her husband has been missing from the spot ever since the incident. According to the landlord and villagers, the couple had come here in search of a job, though neither of them had actually started any work yet.

How It Came to Light

According to the landlord, suspicion arose in the morning when the woman did not get up for a long time and a foul smell began coming from near the room. He then informed the village head. The village head, Vineet Pradhan, said the house belongs to his brother, Rohtas Pradhan, and that this very couple had moved in on rent roughly a week ago.

According to Pradhan, everything was completely normal until around 12:00, before the storm that struck the previous night of the incident. But the next morning, when neither of them came out of the room for a long time, his brother's wife went to check. When the room was examined in the afternoon, a strong stench was coming from it. The moment this was noticed, the village head immediately dialled 112 to inform the police and gave the full details to the chowki in-charge as well. Pradhan said the two living in the room were husband and wife who had come here looking for work. No one knows at what time the husband fled from there.

Police Investigation

Police have taken the body into custody and sent it for a post-mortem. A case has been registered under the relevant sections. Several police teams have been formed to trace and arrest the absconding husband. Officials claim the accused will be caught soon and that further legal action will follow in the case.
