Two very different weather forces are working on the country's skies at the same time, and that is exactly why some places are getting drenched while others are battered by dust and gusty winds. On one side, the southwest monsoon keeps gathering pace, thickening clouds, pulling temperatures down and pushing humidity up. On the other, an active western disturbance sitting over north India is fuelling dust storms, thunder and lightning, and sharp gusts.
The weather office has made it clear that as these two systems collide, conditions will stay unsettled across different parts of the country for the next few days. The upshot: heavy rain will bring relief in some areas, while fierce heat and storms will trouble others. This churn is being felt directly in everyday life, in farming and on the roads. With strong winds capable of toppling trees and cutting visibility, both power supply and road traffic could be disrupted in several states.
17 States in the Firing Line, Winds Up to 80 KM
According to the IMD's latest forecast, at least 17 states will feel the brunt of this turbulent weather on June 13. The list includes Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu-Kashmir, along with several northeastern states. Some of these regions will see dust storms, while others will face an active system of thunderstorms with heavy rain.
The department has warned that in many places wind speeds could touch 50 to 80 kilometres per hour, enough to throw daily routines off balance. There is also a risk of hailstorms in parts of north India and the hilly states. That is why the IMD has urged people to stay alert in open spaces and avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather, since sudden shifts in conditions sharply raise the chances of accidents.
Monsoon Picks Up Speed, Rain Coming Soon to These States
The southwest monsoon is showing no sign of slowing down and keeps advancing. For now, it has already reached Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and several parts of Bihar. Rain activity has intensified in these regions and temperatures are steadily falling. The weather office estimates that over the next 2 to 3 days the monsoon could spread to large parts of Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
This very advance has begun to ease the brutal heat and heatwave that had been scorching the country for a long stretch. As moisture builds in the air, a sense of coolness is returning to the atmosphere. That relief, however, is not entirely steady, because the western disturbance keeps flipping the weather and producing a mixed bag of rain and storms in many places.
Delhi-NCR: Clouds After Noon, Strong Storm Ahead
In the capital and its surrounding areas, the mood of the weather will change completely on June 13. As the afternoon wears on, the sky will fill with dense clouds and several pockets are likely to see a strong storm accompanied by rain. During this spell winds could pick up to 50 to 60 kilometres per hour, raising the risk of damage to trees and light structures. The day's temperature is expected to hover around 37 degrees Celsius, but the wind and rain will bring big relief from the muggy heat. June 14 could look much the same, with thunder, lightning and light rain continuing. The administration has advised people to stay cautious, as sudden strong winds can hit both traffic and power supply.
Uttar Pradesh: Storm-and-Rain Spell from June 13 to 17
Uttar Pradesh's weather remains restless, and between June 13 and 17 most parts of the state will see the effect of storms and rain. A yellow alert has been issued for Baghpat, Meerut, Agra, Mathura, Prayagraj, Jhansi, Kanpur and the districts around them. Strong winds and lightning strikes are feared in several places. After June 14, scattered rain could keep returning to the state, gradually bringing temperatures down and offering relief from the severe heat. Even so, in rural areas the strong winds carry the risk of crop damage and power disruption. The weather department is keeping a constant watch on the situation.
Bihar: Warning of 50-60 KM Winds and Lightning
Bihar is likely to see weather turn rough on June 13. Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Buxar, Siwan and several other districts could get rain along with strong winds. At some spots wind speeds may reach 50 to 60 kilometres per hour, threatening to disrupt normal life. The IMD has also issued a warning about lightning strikes, which can be especially dangerous for rural areas. Intermittent rain may continue over the next few days, pulling temperatures down and easing the heat, though caution will remain essential.
Jharkhand: Monsoon Active, Heavy Rain Likely
The monsoon has turned fully active over Jharkhand, and moderate to heavy rain is forecast in several districts on June 13. Areas such as Ranchi, Dhanbad, Jamshedpur and Dumka will stay under persistent cloud cover with on-and-off showers. This rain will put an end to the long spell of muggy heat and cool the weather down. However, some parts also face the threat of strong winds and lightning, which is why people have been advised to take precautions.
