Vinod Kashyap Murder Case: 'I Don't Want Compensation, Just Justice' — Widow Demands Postmortem Be Held Off Until the Killers Are Punished

After Vinod Kashyap was beaten to death in Bairagiwala over a dispute about irrigating a field, his family is holding firm for justice; his widow says she wants no compensation, only the same punishment for the accused, and refuses the postmortem until then.

In Bairagiwala, in the Vikasnagar area of Uttarakhand, the brutal killing of Vinod Kashyap has left his family caught between grief and rage. Remembering her husband through tears, the dead man's wife told TrendKia in an exclusive conversation that she wants neither aid nor compensation — her only demand is justice.

The Widow's Blunt Demand — Punishment First, Postmortem Later

Speaking with moist eyes, Vinod Kashyap's wife called for the harshest possible action against the accused. She insists that those who took her husband's life must face exactly the same fate. Going a step further, she made it clear that her husband's postmortem should not be carried out until the accused are handed strict punishment. The family is resolved that their fight will not stop until justice is delivered.

Postmortem Still Stuck After Two Days

Two days have passed since the murder, yet the postmortem has still not been completed. The main reason is that the angry relatives have refused to sign the panchnama, and with the panchnama left incomplete, the postmortem has been held up as well. For now, Vinod's body is being kept in the Vikasnagar mortuary. Police and the administration are repeatedly trying to win over the family, but the relatives are standing firm. Speaking to TrendKia, the deceased's father and younger brother said they have lost their son, and given the cruelty with which he was beaten to death, they too want equally tough action. As time slips by, this is turning into a real challenge for the administration.

Why the Killing Happened

The entire episode began with a dispute over irrigating a field. A minor argument between two sides escalated so horrifically that some young men from the other side gathered in the village and set upon Vinod Kashyap with sticks and clubs. He was beaten to death — in effect, an act of mob lynching.

Anger, Arson and a Highway Blockade

After the killing on Sunday, fury erupted across the area. Protests, arson and stone-pelting turned the atmosphere extremely tense. Protesting the murder of the Hindu youth Vinod Kashyap, Hindu organisations carried out arson and stone-pelting at the homes of the accused on the morning of June 14, demanding bulldozer action and an encounter. The same evening, demonstrators blocked the Dehradun–Yamunotri highway and recited the Hanuman Chalisa while pressing their demand for justice.

The Situation Now

By Monday, conditions in Bairagiwala appeared far calmer than before. With continuous monitoring by police and the administration, the situation is gradually returning to normal. Police, PAC and ITBP personnel are deployed across the region, with a special watch on sensitive spots. While the administration is appealing to people to maintain peace and harmony, action against the accused is also continuing. Security in Bairagiwala has been tightened, and the administration is keeping a close eye on the situation.
