Born in British Hong Kong, the 43-year-old actor, whose full name is Katrina Rosemary Turquotte, lived across multiple countries during her childhood. Her father, Mohammed Kaif, is a businessman of Kashmiri origin, while her mother, Suzanne Turquotte, worked as a lawyer and committed social worker. Turquotte launched free evening tuition classes, creating an educational lifeline for children from marginalized agricultural backgrounds.
Growing Mountain View School Against the Odds
Building on the evening classes, Turquotte founded the Mountain View School in 2015. What began as a modest facility with just 30 students has steadily expanded into an institution educating 300 children. Operating in a quiet village near Madurai presented substantial logistical hurdles. Kaif previously reflected on her mother's everyday life, explaining that the community receives electricity for only a few hours each day, while cellular and internet access remain erratic. Because of these infrastructure deficits, even simple telephone conversations between the actor and her mother are frequently interrupted. Yet Turquotte embraced the isolation without hesitation to teach classroom lessons herself.
Transforming Lives Across 25 Villages
Now that her eight children have achieved financial independence and personal success, Turquotte continues her grassroots service with the same intensity. Kaif actively backs her mother's philanthropic mission by providing consistent financial resources to support the students. Today, Relief Projects India has expanded its footprint across 25 villages. Beyond primary and secondary schooling, the organization now runs comprehensive community programs that encompass women's empowerment, vocational life-skills training, professional career counseling, youth leadership workshops, and crucial healthcare interventions including cervical cancer education.
